Kanak’s recruiting was very classy by both him and Venables.

Clemson did not want any more bad press from multiple decommits and Kanak knew that he wanted to be coached by Venables.

Venables made a vow to not recruit any of Clemson’s commits, so Kanak just quietly enrolled. Dabo knew all of this. Classy move by all parties involved.

Dabo was asked at his recruiting wrap up if he expected any more people to sign and he said no.

I agree on this situation. Coach V can’t help it if the kid wants to follow him to Oklahoma. Very mature move by all parties involved.

My problem with this is Dabo goes over the meaning of commitment with the recruit before they make that decision. When Kanek committed Clemson honored it’s word and didn’t recruit his position . Would like to say good luck to the kid but truly believe karma has a way of catching up to people. I have never and will never root for OU unless they play USUCK so as much as it pains me I will not hope for success for BV as OU head coach but will pray for him to have a wonderful life off the field.

Why not just publicly state your reason for signing with Clemson was to play for Venables? That is perfectly understandable.

I’m okay with your approach, or to ‘frame it’ as you have, but the final result is the same.

Dabo and Brent knew his intentions and neither wanted it public.

Dabo didn’t want the negative pub due to losing all the zIMG guys.

Brent didn’t want the perception of stealing a recruit.


Everyone was aware. Nobody found out via a message board.
