Kelly Bryant is really good

I've been as skeptical about Bryant as anyone but looking at the tape from Kent State, dude is a baller. There's only 1 throw he made Saturday that I would consider "bad".

Agreed but most of the pass plays were simple and going against Kent St. Now I do believe he is a baller and I have been behind him the whole way. He played better than expected last week but this week we will find out what he is made of. How will he handle the blitz? If we get down how will he handle adversity? Can he lead us to victory in the 4th quarter if need be? I think he can.

This makes me feel better.
Obviously Bryant and Stidham threw several easy passes .... Screens, flats etc.
Stidham threw one pass that was a bad decision/ good coverage. Bryant through a handful of these with a couple being double covered.
The long TD pass to Cain .... L.O.L at the CB (not even touching him) and the Safety for running up and letting the WR get behind him .... he was 20 yds behind the ball when Cain caught it.
Bryant had a couple of good passes between the 10-20 yard distance on the sideline .... I was impressed with 2 or 3 of these balls.
But if he throws jump balls like he did to Higgins (the one called for off PI) the percentage of completions is going to be pretty low going against Cartlon Davis and Jamel Dean.

The pass to Higgins was perfect. Any WR is going to get a jump ball one on one in the endzone over a CB.

The pass to Cain was as good as it gets. It did not matter what the Safety or CB did.

What I really care about is that he got that bomb to Cain completed. Auburn will have to respect the deep ball. This will open up the running lanes. He is a better runner than Watson, the second best running quarterback in Clemson history. I look for him to get 70+ yards rushing against your vaunted defense. I also expect either Feaster or TE to break a long one. Clemson 28-13.

No needle threading at all. Most of the receivers were open. He looked good against a lousy opponent, just like Kelly Bryant looked good against a weak team. Tomorrow will reveal much more about both players. But I think Clemson wins because of superior play from everyone else.

He did have that 1 to Overton headed towards west end zone on the sidelines. I believe pass interference was called as well

Oh yeah .... and if Watson tried to throw to our walk-on receiver against Alabama's All-American Fitzpatrick we would have been in trouble .....uhhhh wait.
I don't think Bryant is scared of Davis and Dean!

Regarding the pass to Cain....

Cain can absolutely fly, and is a huge deep threat. It's no fault of Kelly or Cain that the DB couldn't keep up. It was a beautifully thrown ball by Bryant.

I can promise your corners aren't winning most of those jump ball battles with our receivers. Especially Higgins, Overton, and Cain. You'll see Saturday.

Fair enough. So they are roughly equal as passers (you give a slight edge to Stidham) while Bryant runs a 4.4 and is a threat to rip off a 50 or 60-yard run while Stidham...isn't. Overall, that makes me feel better.

Kelly is very fast on the field but where have you seen that he runs a 4.4?? I have seen 4.6 as the lowest.

24/7 has him listed at 4.5, but that's probably as low as it'll get.

Deshaun ran a 4.66 40. I think we can all agree KB is wayyy faster than Deshaun. Deshaun never had that 5th gear to separate from guys, KB does.

much time trolling Tigernet this past week or so. I hear it's a tough gig being little brother in a rivalry like you guys are with Alabama, especially considering both programs have been around since the 19th Century and the state clearly belongs to the enemy over that span.
The arrogant smarm vibe seems more rooted in your disdain for your big brother, Bama, and the fact that you see a vicarious opportunity for a moral victory over them this weekend against us considering we daddied up on your alpha sibling in the championship game. You wouldn't use that tone when trolling their site, but you do here. Bless your heart.
But take solace, there will surely be 1001 excuses to explain away your loss come Sunday. And since we're only the vicarious Alabama, not the actual one that you really care about in this game, the loss shouldn't feel as bad. You'll have your chance for that come November. It would be fun to read some of your posts then.
G'day.

Is that the same Carlton Davis that MW7 went for 177 yards on last year?

Good arm and good accuracy. My only concern
Sep 8, 2017, 3:05 PM

(and I freely admit that I'm not expert on this), is that it didn't look like he "looked-off" any of the defenders or went though a progression (maybe a couple times but that's it).
Maybe someone who has a better eye for these sorts of things can comment.
I'd also like to have seen his running plays, since he got 77 yards on the ground.

.... he didn't have to look off anyone.. his first check was usually open. May not be the case against Auburn.

but honestly, the throw to the initial intended target was there 90% of the time. He didn't really even have to check down.

Hopefully they went over that this week in film.

Dabo clearly believes he is the man for the job based on his 2-plus years with Clemson. I believe KB can have a big game on Saturday running and throwing, and expect him to have a better game than Stidham who will be shovel passing and running for his life.

There were definitely more than a few "bad" throws in there. Against an inferior opponent, everything seems brilliant but in my opinion, I'd like to see more zip on the screen passes and more work on his progressions. 9/10 times, he throwing to his primary receiver without first analyzing the defense. If you're always throwing to the first or second target and limiting your scans, you become predictable. A good corner / safety could have seen a majority of those completions above from a mile away. Part of me blames "first game jitters" but I've seen enough of the same from Kelly that I still worry a bit about how he will act under pressure, against a formidable secondary. Some of his passes were beautiful indeed but there's still room for improvement for sure.

Ding ding ding
He played extremely well in his first outing. If he is anywhere close to as accurate as he was in game 1, our offense will be just fine.
Go Tigers!!!

Bryant had a good first game as a starter. He flashed that speed everyone knew he had. He threw the ball pretty well. Understand that he did not throw many passes towards Cain, McCloud and Renfrow. He completed 16-22, his INT in the endzone, he was throwing to a freshman instead of one of his "Big 3". It happens. I think the read option where he has the option to run or pass will be used several times today. This game might be one of those where the 1's get to play a whole game. Our front 7 is not being talked about. BV will dial up blitzes from all angles and Stidham won't know what hit him.
