and tampering with no regard to the rules. He stated what we all know that college football is completely out of control. There are schools that have struggled under the rules in the past that are going straight to the top now. FL State is picked to win the ACC this year and it’s due to buying the best transfers they can get.

I wouldn't build a program around the portal but I don't think you can completely ignore it either. It started out with nothing but disgruntled kids looking for more playing time but it is now evolving into a source of legit talent. And those seeking more NIL $ is going to attract more good talent to the portal.
Recruiting is recruiting and you still have to be involved where the talent is. Produce or perish will always be the standard and not fishing where some of the good fish are just doesn't make a lot of sense.
I think the better programs are going to use the leverage that comes with all viable sources of recruiting options because that is just the way things are moving these days.
Just like Willie Sutton said when they asked him why he robs banks, "because that is where the money is."

…where did they get that plan? Portal is out of control. They created a monster to avoid lawsuits and Justin Fields situations. There’s no going back. The portal plus NIL effectively makes every player an unrestricted free agent. At least professionals have a contract with term lengths. Before long, signing day will be pointless.

The only "signing" that matters is the signing of the NIL contract.

EXACTLY…universities treat it for what it is, a 2-way…

…1-year contract.
Teams that have the money and sponsors can form a SEPARATE semi-pro league. All players on these teams have financially-compensated contracts with varying levels of compensation, just as the pros.
The other universities that don’t have that kind of money, form a SEPARATE amateur league that mimics the “days of old” with scholarships, academic standards, amateur status.
I think you would end up with about 32 “money/NIL teams” that can form a perfect alignment with the NFL. The rest of the “non-money” universities re-align their conferences with the other “non-money” teams.
I personally would be quite happy with Clemson being a “non-money” team, and my enthusiasm for the Tigers would not wane.
At present, the “novelty” of this money-portal game has already worn off.

I live in Fayetteville AR. Nick Smith Jr (Freshman at Arkansas, Sure lottery pick) has only played three games. For weeks he has not been with the team but in California with “Right Knee Management” as the only explanation being cited. I agree, not sure how many are truly in “class”.

I know people opinions on how to fix the portal and NIL vary wildly, but someone needs to implement some sort of rules to level the field. There needs to be some type of cap on transfers somehow, sit a year, make them play a minimum of 2 years at a school before transferring...something. Then, they need to make any NIL deal FULLY guaranteed. That way these hometown backdoor deals that keep popping up will slow down when the first wave of players get bank and then cut bait to go elsewhere. You wont see near as many million dollar deals when the player can walk and keep the cash.

Some coaches like Mack are complaining about tampering, but the problem is that none of them are doing anything about it. If a coach has hard evidence that another school tampered with one of his players, he should report it, both to the NCAA and the sports media.
Tampering is definitely happening because high profile players are entering the portal one day and announcing their new school the next day. Deals were obviously made in advance.
Tampering is illegal, but the worthless NCAA probably wouldn't do anything. However, crooked coaches would be exposed to the public, and that would slow down tampering.
Such tampering reports would need hard evidence to avoid law suits and coaches with guts.

Heck, Sam Hartman wasn't even in the portal but Sports Media knew he was going to enter the portal and transfer to Notre Dame.

look at their past. https://museum.unc.edu/exhibits/show/friday/frank-mcguire--1916-1994--withThe University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the nation's oldest state university, with a rich history of more than two centuries. This virtual museum retells that history much as a physical museum might do, with texts and images arranged in a series of roughly chronological exhibits. Along the way, there is much for the university's friends to take pride in, and other truths that are now painful to remember. The virtual museum is Carolina's open eye to its own past.

Since the NCAA is toothless, when a school has the proof of tampering and sues the tampering school, changes will follow. Universities don't want negative publicity and don't want to start paying damages, thus driving change from outside the Athletic Department.
So stop the talk about tampering Mack and take action.

We’re living in an age of “scofflaws.” Blatant law/rule breaking and no one fearing enforcement. Is George Soros in charge of the NCAA?

Its professional football now and there aint no going back.
Question is how many football fans will be around in a decade still willing to pay NFL-level prices in support of it.

What is the point and purpose of the NCAA anymore?

I mean, we stopped even pretending years ago that many of these athletes were actual, real college students, who were subject to the same entrance and ongoing academic requirements as non-athletes, or that there was one set of minimum requirements and standards for all students.
There have always been athletes that really couldn't cut it academically, or at least without some help or cutting some corners. But at least there was a time when college was almost sigularly an academic endeavor for qualified students who were primarily interested in learning for future careers, and school athletics was just a bonus for those students, and were for fun and school pride. Now, the ONLY thing that matters, or drives it is money, while college itself is viewed almost as a right, and denying anyone that right is not only wrong, but dangerous. That all has led to college football becoming the minor league for the NFL, as well as a huge money-maker for bigger, successful football schools, and it's even beneficial, through conference affliations, for schools that aren't as successful.
We are at a crossroads of sorts. What is the primary purpose of college, and what are schools' obligations to society? Is college a God-given right that must be available to all? Or, should it be for people who really want to learn, and are capable of learning academically, for better careers that will ultimately benefit society? Are universities obligated to be a training ground, and a minor league for the NFL (and the NBA to some extent), even for students who are not capable academically, or who have no real interest in any other career which requires college?
Personally, I think human nature wins out (it probably already has), and money and power beats academic integrity, hands down, and for all practical purposes, the NCAA is dead.

The government created this mess and they are the only ones who can put rules around NIL and enforce them. The transfer portal without NIL would not be that big of a problem. But the two starting at the same time are the perfect storm.

I've been blaming them from the start. They wont do anything to stop the reparations... oops... NIL payouts. Anything the government touches it screws up. But since it is here, they players should not be able to "double dip" by getting both a huge NIL as well as a huge scholarship.

Totally agree Frog OC loved spreading the ball around at TCU. Clemson didn't do much of that last year with DJ starting regular season. I was easier to shut down DJ offense when OC runs same plays all the time. Versus Furman the Furman defense knew the play more than Clemson offense did.

Clemson will win ACC this year in Frog Fashion. Wasn't it TAMU that bought most players last year and were under 500. I haven't heard Clemson buying players.
