Mafah Get Rid of Loose Strap on Shoulder Device

Did you see that guy pull Mafah down by grabbing that looped strap on his shoulder device? He could have had another good run if not for that?

That strap is something that a number of players are starting to have. Noticed it in a number of games last night after seeing Mafah taken down by the strap. Looks to be some kind of restaining strap attached from a cuff on the dominant arm to the pads. What it's purpose is, I need to look that up.

It is used for protection for an injured shoulder. It prevents the arm from being hyperextended. Often worn after shoulder separation.

I think what he is wearing is for a shoulder dislocation vs separation which involves the collarbone. I looked up the devices and it appears many don't have that looped strap he was caught by. But it could be there is an advantage to the one he has. I don't know.

Thank you both for the information, I didn't know what it was for. I did see one or 2 players players with that strap hanging out in the Alabama/LSU and Michigan/Purdue games.

Agree, it seems like the injury risk from getting yanked backward by the strap is far worse than whatever protection it provides. I am all for placebos, but they first need to do no harm.
