Milton Jennings and Other Random Thoughts

Jan 27, 2013, 4:08 PM

I wonder if Milton came out of High School with less hype if we would look back on his career and say he wasn't a superstar, but he was a solid player? Unfortunately with all the hype that comes with being a McDonald's All American, we expect this result every game.

I just got really excited to see 2 sophmores (McDaniels and Harrison) have big games. I think we will be set the next 2-3 years at the guard and one forward position, we just need another big, defensive body with mediocre offense to jump into the mix.

Also, really, this was Brad's first Technical at Clemson? Holy smokes, after last year and this year, you would think he would have more.

Also, was today the highest point total for us this year? What was the highest we scored last year? Just wondering.

Response to two of your thoughts ...

1) I don't think we have Harrison next year (Mormon mission) or the next (think the missions are two years). So, can't really count on him.

2) This was Brownell's first technical foul EVER as a head coach. Though, the announcers said it was called on the bench, so not sure if it will count against Brownell.

last year we scored 79 in a game and 83 in and OT game (not sure how regulation ended). So today was right up there for point output

I think what is missing here in talking about Milton Jennings is that while he was a McDonalds All American,he came into a program that was not suited for his style of play.
Milton was more of a post up type player, and known for having a silky smooth 15-18 foot jump shot.Yet he was thrown into Oliver Purnell's run and gun offense,an offense not suited to his game.
So what happened. He suffered and was labeled by many as a bust.
This year I think he is finally finding himself in the type of program suited to his style.
The same can be said of Devin. He most often is called on to play center when in reality he is a small foward.Again he is an Oliver Purnell recuit.
Just my thoughts. If I am wrong please let me know.

Jerai Grant, Bobo, and now Milton and Booker? 'I wish they had one more year - under Brownell....' And what if BB had Oglesby for 2?

That's what happens when there is coaching turnover.

Even if a coaching change is thought to be better for a team in the long run, there is always a learning curve and transition for him to recruit the players that best fit his system.

As Clemson has experienced with it's football program, it also often takes new coaches a few years to find the right assistant coaches.

Even if the coach isn't a star, there is a lot to be said for stability. This concept holds true in the business world as well. People need to know they can rely on leadership from any organization. They also need to know what to expect, or the organization isn't likely to be very successful.

Bobo showed a lot of improvement his senior year.Oglesby,on the other hand probably benefited, imo,of playing under Purnell.
