MISLEADING STATS...

Dec 28, 2015, 1:43 PM

The BIG 12 has four teams in the top 6 in the nation in offense:
#1 - Baylor
#2 - Texas Tech
#3 - TCU
#6 - Oklahoma

Sounds impressive, until you realize that the other 6 teams rank between 95 and 127 in total defense. Not impressive offenses when you play teams that have zero defense.

Just think, the only Power 5 team you played outside of your conference had a defense ranked 45th in the nation, and they held you to 3 points for 3 quarters and 6 minutes. I think you can be ready for the same Thursday afternoon, just not a comeback in the final 9 minutes.

Excellent points. I think the Oklahoma team and fans are listening to the talking heads telling them how great they are. They are definitely NOT better than Clemson. This game won't be as close as our last two.

Can someone explain to me how OU is the "hot" team with 6 consecutive wins? Clemson has 15 consecutive wins! I don't get it.

Baker5801,

Could the "hot team" moniker come from the fact that OU was defeating teams by double-digits down the stretch while Clemson was taken to the wire by the likes of South Carolina and North Carolina?

After Thursday you will be gone??

Here's a stat for you ....

Dec 28, 2015, 6:57 PM [ in reply to Re: MISLEADING STATS... ]

None of those "down to the wire" games involved teams that could possibly win on their final offensive possession.

None.

Even after we gave a few of them a junk score to pull within double digits.

I imagine we'll provide y'all with the same courtesy. It sure would stink to lose to Clemson by more than the Capons, wouldn't it?

That can probably be turned the other way as well

Dec 28, 2015, 3:16 PM

The ACC has some of the best defenses in the country, but some really bad offenses. So which conference stat is more misleading?

Well, I believe Clemson is ranked 11th or 12th in the country on total offense, yet we played 5 teams with defenses in the top 20.

Compare that to Oklahoma which is ranked 6th in the country on total offense, yet has played 6 teams that are ranked 94th or worse and not played ANY Power 5 conference teams in the top 20. Actually, I think Tennessee was their strongest Power 5 defense opponent and they were ranked 45 in total defense.

I understand what you're saying, but it looks pretty obvious to me that Clemson, facing much superior defenses, has still produced a top 12 offensive powerhouse.

Xactly, but contrarians won't appreciate it... Thursday!***

I find these stats irrelevant without anything close to a round robin.

Dec 28, 2015, 3:42 PM

With 128 teams and only 12-13 games each per season, these stats are for an idea but are meaningless for making conclusions.

Stats be danged... This is most assuredly about talent...

Clemson dominates on both lines... Everything else follows.
