Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
Ken Hatfield and Tommy Bowden had some poor classes.
The 88 and 89 classes were great classes. The 90 class would have been just as good if not better but Danny was let go a month before signing day. That's why many of say he would have won at least one more national championship in the early 90's.

Max Lennon hated Danny. And Danny knew it. He should have kept his head down and been quiet. The remarks about the administration not supporting the football program did him in. Lennon told him a football dorm was a dead issue. But Danny persisted.

Danny earned the right to be persistent. Lennon was an ###!***

I don't know that Lennon hated Danny...

They both had rather self-serving ideas about what was in Clemson's best interest and those philosophies weren't well aligned at the time to co-exist.
That said, after Lennon told Danny that a football dorm was a dead issue and Danny continued to press the issue with Clemson boosters, it did make Lennon very angry.

87-89 teams always had at least one head scratcher loss. We would have had to battle those head scratchers as well as FSU had Ford stayed.
National title far from guaranteed, but would have been fun finding out in the early 90s had Ford stayed.

The press conferences for those low-ranked classes always started out with "We got who we wanted..."
Right!

It is amazing what Dabo Swinney has done at Clemson with recruiting classes that most times is not top 5. This is his record since 2009
Year. Recruiting rank. Record 09 37. 9-5 10. 19. 6-7 11. 08. 10-4 12. 14. 11-2 13. 14. 11-2 14. 04 14-1 15. 06. 14-1 16. 22 12-2 17. 08. 15-0 18. 09. 14-1 19. 02. 10-2 20. 06. 10-3 21. 10. 10-3 22. 10. 11-3 23. 10. 9-4
Dabo has had great success without one number on recruiting class and only two top five classes.

Thanks for sharing MRTTMT!!
I never paid any attention to recruiting until around 2010 and ever since I have tried to keep up at least to some extent. Really cool to see some guys who were good players turn into great players and unfortunately some really great prospects did not pan out so well. I think it was Willy Korn, touted very highly I do believe, and correct me if I am wrong but injuries kept him from ever really playing many snaps at all.
Anyway, seeing Danny Ford pulling high level recruits is not shocking, but seeing Tommy Bowden in the 60's.... terrible! Not sure what happened there

The way I remember it Korn got hurt during his first start, a GT Dlineman pulled his arm back just as he was throwing and he never seemed to get his arm strength back.

but had little to show for it.
He had some key signees not ever make it to school. Others who did make it here just never lived up to the hype.

Tommy West had some dang good O-lineman while he was here. If he could have gotten a competent Off.Coord.he probably sticks around longer . Those offenses were painful to watch while seemingly having decent skill talent

Great info. Dabo has had balanced teams over the years with the talent spread out evenly. They have hit on most of their 4-5 stars and found a bunch of great 3 stars.

I was thinking it would be back to like 1965. Just had the realization that 40 years ago was 83 and I was 1. Where did the time go.
