Finally getting to play Augusta!!!
Apr 4, 2015, 7:33 PM
|
|
I'm over the moon. Got my call today and will be playing end of April. Anyone on here played and can give me some advice about what to expect. Heard the course and grounds are nearly empty all the time and may be less than 10 people there including crew.

are a little better and it's nothing special.
A day at the course is still better than a day at work, though, they say...

Greens at Boscobel probably roll faster. Lol. Enjoyed that course when I was at Clemson.

I think so. Yeah he like Donald Ross were both great and very prolific considering the era in which they worked. Horses and drag pans. Train travel to jobs. They did lots of good courses

MacKenzie never saw the finished product. He died in California before the course opened.

Did you notice the water bottles?

They have bottles with the Masters logo in coolers on every tee. The water is bottled in Oconee County, or at least it used to be.

I brought a few of those bottles back the one time I was fortunate enough to play.

Sure luck. I told my wife I'd jump the fence at 60 with a 7 iron if I hadn't gotten the chance before then.
Actually fell into my lap honestly. I've tried many times with no luck then it happened. Banker fm is taking me as guest in his group.

Enjoy every second of it....and realize almost every adult male in the civilized world love to be in your shoes that day!
I expect a detailed report back when you return.
And if you need a 4th....I can be available at the last minute!

I can shoot 80 or 90. Usually depends on putting. Usually have a hole or two when i have a dropped ball or so that ruins score. Typically between 80-83 but have never broken 80. Shot a 35 on one course on the front and fell apart on the back 9. Always have that one hole.

It isn't that hard from the member tees, unless you get the ball above the holes on the greens. You'll have a caddie - that's required - just follow his advice.

Thanks Marshall.
Kind of sad actually. Funny I've been trying to volunteer there for years like Quail and they wouldn't let me and now i get to play it.
Still wish I could be a yearly volunteer at the masters. hunting and golf are my two big passions.

You'll have a great time and will be able to tell stories about it the rest of your life. I hope you get to play the par three course also. A few of the holes there are arguably better and certainly prettier than any of the par threes on the main course, with the exception of 12.

Is it true one of founders of augusta killed themselves on what now is the par 3?

of Greenwood Country Club waiting on Mr. Jim to take us to Augusta to play. We got a call from Mr. Self that he had to go to NeW York and could not play. What a heart break for some 15 year kids. I will never forget it.
