they used to play EVERYWHERE in the SC/NC/GA circuit.

Nantucket is a Southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1969. Originally known as a Beach music band named Stax of Gold, and later Nantucket Sleighride (after the song and album by Mountain) and eventually shortened to Nantucket, the six-member group—Tommy Redd, Larry Uzzell, Mike Uzzell, Eddie Blair, Kenny Soule, and Mark Downing—first became successful in their home state of North Carolina as a cover band.

Background
The band signed with Epic Records in 1977 and, the following year, released its self-titled album, which featured the single "Heartbreaker." A cross-country tour followed, with Nantucket opening for KISS, Styx, Boston, Mother's Finest, Journey, and The Doobie Brothers. The album sold approximately 200,000 copies and also appeared on the Billboard charts.[1] In 1979, Nantucket followed up with Your Face or Mine?.

Mike Uzzell was dismissed from the band by the third album, with Pee Wee Watson replacing him on bass guitar. As a tribute to AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott, who died in 1980, Nantucket's Long Way to the Top included a version of the 1975 classic "It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)". The move landed the band a spot with AC/DC on its Back in Black tour for the entire summer.

Even though Nantucket found some success, Epic Records eventually dropped the band. Drummer Kenny Soule and bassist Pee Wee Watson left in 1981, joining guitarist Michael Gardner to form rock trio PKM. They were replaced by Richard Gates and David "Thumbs" Johnson for Nantucket's fourth album. Following the band's last two studio albums, which were produced in 1983 and 1985, the group disbanded in 1990.

To try and go national/international really seemed to nosedive at the end of the 90’s.

That’s around the time that record execs stopped utilizing talent scouts and just started doing music my algorithm, as well as bands leaning less on touring and more on MySpace to get recognition.

Minnesota. There's almost zero evidence that Men In Trees existed other than a Soundcloud page on the internet and a t-shirt sewn into the t-shirt comforter my mother-in-law made out of all my old high school and Clemson-era t-shirts. Pretty sure the White Animals still play an occasional reunion show around Nashville.

The Suburbs came down and played Clemson a few times at Edgar's when I worked there.

Popular Mechanics from Greenville. They were a staple around Clemson back in the day and who doesn't love a band with a vintage Farfisa organ? Arrogance from Chapel Hill. My first exposure to Laancaster, SC native son and super producer Don Dixon. Dash Rip Rock from New Orleans. They toured around the Carolinas regularly and I'm pretty sure they get mentioned in the Joounge on the regular. The Producers from Atlanta. They were a staple around Clemson and I think still play around today. Flat Duo Jets from Chapel Hill. Dex Romweber (RIP) was a madman and they were a staple of my Milestone Club days. The Accelerators from Raleigh. They played around Charlotte some but usually went to see them with a close friend that moved to Raleigh while I was at Clemson.

So here's another one...Snatches Of Pink. Dex Romweber's sister Sara was the drummer, and John Howie Jr. was in the band at the end of their run. John was pretty solid on the punk and alternative scene, but now he's doing Honky Tonk country as John Howie Jr. and the Rosewood Bluff, and they're excellent. John was dating Sarah Shook when she first started and helped get the Disarmers off the ground and played drums with them. He and Sarah had a pretty nasty breakup and Sarah went on to some national success while John is still playing mostly around the Carolinas.
