Obviously Dabo will always be a legend at Clemson

And we all trust him thanks to the credit he has built up over the years. So none of us actually thought that the issue was him right?

But after last night, we may have to consider that he is indeed the issue with the program decline recently. Of course there is still plenty of time to turn it around and maybe this will light a fire under him personally and make him search inwards.

There have been examples of other elite coaches who for whatever reason lost their fastball at some point. Like Jimbo Fisher and David Shaw are two that come to mind immediately. Long long way to go for Dabo to be compared to that though and hopefully he can right the ship.

I think you are spot on. Thought it was noticeable last year - just seemed he had thrown in the towel/checked out mentally. It's understandable in a way. I recall several games last year when watching the games with family that my 70 yo mother said the exact same thing. What more can he accomplish here?

There have been points in my life in certain areas - I've done the same. It's a natural human reaction to become bored with something you've mastered. I don't think anyone will be calling for his head, nothing lasts forever.

He seems to be navigating a path of marrying his “old way” to the new NIL/Portal reality…problem that I see with that is the portal has become a competition to be won every season. Every level of competiom must be won in order to compete-high school recruiting, booster money, facilities, NIL management, on field prep and install…it seems Dabo just wont embrace the all-out dog fight and bidding that it seems to take to get already developed-known quantity players into a program, even for one final season or a year or two.

It could be that this is a rough 2-3 season transition period

I like Shaw and to be fair to him, he did not have support from Stanford to compete in the new world of NIL and portal. Their requirements and lack of funding to football specifically put him behind the 8-ball in terms of competitiveness in the new world. These were his words when he resigned, not mine.
