Brownell is a below average recruiter who occasionally stumbles on to a few decent players.

Starting with the good. Hall and ‘Chief have skills _ maybe not NBA skills but very strong college players. Girard can shoot and contribute as a scorer. If he was cycling into a solid three guard rotation, he would be even more effective ___ imagine the other guards being strong ball handlers and consistent, confident scorers.

Now the not so good. Our other guards are not top 200 guards. An occasional flash but no real consistency. Horrendous shooting and turnovers happen way too frequently. CBB has failed to recognize our guards low ceiling and failed miserably to address through recruiting. We constantly have recruiting gaps, rarely a freshman that is a major contributor.

The mystifying is the play of Godfrey, Wiggins and even Clark. They flash hot but also disappear, There was hope that Godfrey or Wiggins would break out and demonstrate consistency that demands more PT. Alas not, and from a recruiting standpoint, who is behind them?

Brownell’s recruiting leaves gaps at starters and a bench that is questionable with no consistent contributors or likes future stars.

To be a talented team, recruiting has to be much better.

Girard is a three point shooter. Period. He has NO ball handling skills. If he

ever ventures inside, either his shot is getting blocked, the ball is getting stolen, or, on the incredibly lucky occasion, the other teams bails us out by fouling him. If he ever gets double teamed while dribbling, he WILL lose the ball. It is a given.

So, opposing teams know, if they have a half a working brain, all they have to do to take Girard away is to deny the three. Then, it becomes five on four, because he is useless otherwise. He is not even an average passer of the ball. His lone asset is shooting the three, augmented by free throws, if he gets fouled.

OK but he can shoot. Other teams dare the rest of the team to shoot 3s.***

That’s how you beat Clemson, dare PJ to shoot 3 pointers wide open.

There is talent on this team but it takes good coaching to get them to consistently play to their potential. Therein lies the rub...
