Do you have a wife? Daughters? The more awareness the better and maybe we will find a cure one day. I know it gets old but really is for a good cause.

Everyone is well "aware" of breast cancer.
None of the money collected for "breast cancer awareness" goes towards cancer RESEARCH or cancer PATIENTS. It goes to Nike and Under Armour and Adidas to make pink jerseys and cleats and wristbands and SWAG worn by the players.
Cancer is big business. These companies are making huge profits pretending to care. Good PR for big business, plus cash-in-pocket to boot!

I'm sry but I disagree. Saying NONE of that money goes to research isn't true. Sry but I can't buy that.

Corporate America is a nasty institution. Maybe not NONE, but easily 10% or less of all the money involved actually goes to anything cancer related at all.
You do know I'm only referring to these instances where "awareness" is the key word, right? American Cancer Society, among many other organizations, raise millions of dollars in drives specifically defined as benefitting "breast cancer RESEARCH." The majority of this money directly affects those affected by cancer.
The whole "awareness" thing is just a platform major companies use for a profitable PR boost

My wife's mother passed away from cancer and she loathes the whole pink thing. The reasons have already been mentioned. Very little money goes to the actual cause it's creating awareness for.

Panthers". I hope we never do that to the paw. I don't mind a little pink for BC awareness but I have noticed it seems to be fading this year in college football. Not seen as many teams wearing the pink like years past.

all that money goes to Nike, et al. 10% or so goes to anything breast CA related. 90% of profits go to making reach people more rich.

Wonder what Dabo and many, many others think about statements like that. God bless all those touched by cancer in any way. Go Tigers!!

I think what Dabo does, does a heck of a lot more for CA research than pink arm bands do. The pink in football just turned into an opportunity for merchandisers.

When the criticism of the pink ribbon stuff began
Oct 29, 2015, 9:32 PM
|

I at first thought it heartless until I actually investigated it.
I'm a cancer survivor (not that that in any way should make my opinion/view more or less valid) and have been touched by cancer throughout my family (but sadly, haven't we all) so my initial reaction was visceral and not based on understanding just how little actual tangible good is being done by these pink ribbon campaigns. Some is, of course, and the argument can be made that any good is worth continuing.
But, imagine, instead, that the money spent to create, purchase, and market these supplies went directly to cancer research. Or it was split between cancer research and paying for treatment and care for families battling these diseases.
It just seems the awareness trend has run it's course of usefulness. Perhaps we should move on to helping folks in need.
