Perhaps Iptay's main initiative should be.....

Paying for football players.

Seriously.

If we want the receivers we're not getting; buy them. Same goes for OL.

A few SEC schools started paying their OL 50K a year, each, 2 seasons ago.

We paid Dabo 100+ million. We built all these new facilities.....why TF would any of us care HOW we recruit if "winning" is the end goal?

Clemson has been buying recruits for years. They just called it facilities.

College's with a #### ton of money and foresight saw the "facilities" as a way to get ahead in recruiting...and then NIL showed up and pretty much knocked facilities down a notch.

It depends on what each team's definition of "winning" is.

Winning might be a goal of finishing the season Bowl eligible.

Winning 7 games, 8 games, 9 games, etc. Winning the conference championship.

Winning a natty or even playing in the CFP may not be a goal.

It is going to boil down to what fans will accept and support for their team.

What would we be happy to support?

Me, I would have to think about it. Really think about it.

But to go all in on buying players to accomplish a goal just does not appeal to me. And I don't think it appeals to many. There are better solutions and I think a solution will be found that takes the highest bidder out of the equation of getting the best players.

Agreed you have to decide what side of the fence you are on

Sep 11, 2023, 12:00 PM

The MONEY side, or the MORAL side.

Right now, until ALL of the “MORAL” teams get organized, the “MONEY” will need to be the focus.

Perhaps the OP should read Iptays mission

IPTAY pays all the scholarships already. You want them to stop doing that?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes.

Sep 11, 2023, 8:25 AM

1. Get rid of on-campus "sports" that don't generate money. Yes CxC, this means you. This frees up enough scholarships for the entire team
2. Use Iptay money to go after athletes that help generate money via wins (high-caliber fb players)
3. Use continued donations from fan-approved, successful previous season donations to Iptay, to go after next round of top caliber players.

The student-athletes wanted NIL and this new era of semi-professional sports. Let them have it.

The only 2 sports that generate positive revenue are football and mens basketball.

Yeah, let’s get rid of everything else. Good idea. Oh, we couldn’t play D1 only fielding 2 teams. Not to mention Title IX.

Also, I personally would not give a dime to IPTAY anymore if it only funded 2 sports.

Iptay can't pay players. That's not how this works.

Re: Perhaps Iptay's main initiative should be.....

Sep 11, 2023, 1:18 PM

+ $10M on a head coach a year. I think any school would get better results spending $9M on players and $1M of head coach. By their own account, X's and O's are based on the Jimmy's and the Joe's.

Ultimately head coach salaries were a driving force that killed amateur sports as there appeared too much money floating around that schools had nothing to spend it on so they threw it at coaches and facilities.

You know that the school can’t pay players, right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So now the excuse is that we aren't paying players enough?

1

Sep 11, 2023, 1:24 PM

Our problem isn't talent. Our problem is poor coaching.

How much is Duke paying their players?

Agreed, IPTAY needs to be merged with the NIL center

1

Sep 11, 2023, 2:13 PM

Right now the university iptay and NIL are competing against each other for the same dollars.

They need to trim the big bureaucracy come under the same leadership and treat the big donors holistically

Facilities isn’t the the battleground anymore
