Peter Woods & D-Line Starting Lineup

If I'm reading right, Woods is already one of the top five strongest players on team as well as quick. My conjecture is within a few games Woods will start at DE with XT, and Mascoll will rotate in and out as top DE backup. At DT, pencil in Tyler Davis with Ruke, Page and others fighting it out for playing time. How do our TigerNet gurus see the 2023 Defensive Line shaping up?

I see him and Davis as starters at DT.

If Woods really is 265 then that seems light to me for a DT. Watch his weight through the summer and see what he comes in at in the fall. If he has added about 25 lbs. then I can see him at DT. If they keep him about where he is then I could see him on the Edge.

Woods is listed as a DL for Clemson

And he he played all positions at his high school. Why do you state he's exclusively a DT at 6'2" 265 lbs? Dabo stated he could play anywhere on Tiger line.

What they played in HS does not matter all that much. What matters is how they want to use him in college. If he remains at 265, as I mentioned above, that seems a little low in weight for a DT. If he puts on about 25 lbs. through the summer then I can see him at DT. If he stays about where he is then I could see them standing him up.

The answer is probably pretty clear with wherever the staff is practicing him now. He definitely has the ability to play anywhere, but it seems like the staff is primarily using him inside.

Y’all are funny. Yes he projects long term as DT but so was Christian Wilkins and he played DE for a season. The need is at DE and we are stacked at DT
Who wants to wager he doesn’t start at DT?
The OP is right. He’s more likely to get start at DE.

Best guess. I see them trying to keep Woods pretty lean at 280 or so and play him as a run stopping disruptive force at DE
DE - XT DT - TDavis 2- Capehart DT - Ruke 2- Page DE - PWoods
Tre Williams, Patterson and Denoff hopefully make some noise!

Tre will be ahead of capehart most likely. We are talented this year. May have a better d line this year than last

As long as he's around 275 280

Don't think weights that big of a deal with pwoo. He's like Aaron Donald who plays in the NFL at 280

I think that is the key. Where do they want him? If they beef him up then he will be at DT and if they leave him where he is then they may put him on the edge.

his future is at DT, 4-3 alignment or DE in a 3-4 which is really a DT- his talent might be wasted in some 3-4 schemes

Man I absolutely hated when we went 3-4 a few years back. Are they contemplating changing the scheme? Or are you just giving an example?

It was just an example but that seems to be the trend now. To defend certain versions of the spread, coordinators seem to favor a 3 man defensive front. Don't care for it personally but I understand why they do.

True and it also is wise if you are strong at LB. We were weak at DL in 2019 and a lot stronger at LB. We stayed at top 5 defenses was one of the best coaching jobs by BV IMHO. So don’t completely knock the 3-4. It can be very effective with the right personnel.

I watched Pwoo in his all star games where they could not block him. He has to start game one somewhere and play a LOT. He is the best we have and must be on the field.
