I'm a youngin...24 from Irmo. Seen them in ATL about 3 years ago. I never really listened to them but some hippie buddies of mine invited me to go to the show with them and I had a heck of a time.

it surprises me you haven't seen panic then

i saw them at township a couple of years back and one of my first shows was 3 rivers music festival in 2000.
i am 34 and was a little young (according to my parents) to see phish in CHS when they came and my older sister got to go.
my first panic shows were when Mikey was still alive, so that is completely different than now.
older phish is very different than now and people get real defensive about that on the phish bored i read. i was in ATL in 2012 and have tix for next month in CHS.
i feel like as the older jam band juggernauts they get lumped together but are two totally different animals.

Like I said Ive never really listened to them before. My buddies are real big Phish fans but don't like WSP. I used to have a WSP cd and actually liked it(I'm more of a metal fan). I would not be opposed to going to a panic show tho.

see them both and enjoy them both.
Panic isn't going to be touring much in the foreseeable future, so it would have been cool for you to get to ATL or Asheville last weekend. however, they are doing 2 nights at 420 fest next year, so that should be cool.
as long as you are seeing something that's a good thing.
i've seen a little bit of it all and wish i had kept a show journal. not just set lists, but bands and venues and dates.
i've seen so much random stuff that i would love to have a resource to go back and see when, where and with whom.

There's nothing better than a live show with some good friends. Especially ones you haven't heard of that sparks your interest. They make some good memories... or lack thereof

I'd say they are both more deadlike than like the ABB.

Neither plays tradional blues like the ABB. WSP does play a little blues when John Keane sits in but it's nothing like the ABB blues.
Phish seems to have more jazz influence and WSP seems more southern boogie influnced like Little Feat a little if that makes sense though LF is from LA.
I prefer WSP.

i think phish is more of a technical musicians band with odd time signatures and complex pieces.
panic is more relatable to the everyday listener. i think they win in my book, but i still don't love jimmy like some people do. schools side for lyphe.

so it's not bad to say that i don't love him like others do?

heck, i even like Doretha by G Mac.
i get that the mikey sound is gone, but jimmy is aggressive to me sometimes. some songs it works, others it just seems harsh.
but it's also kinda like sober trey. you won't get the same out of him anymore for better or worse.
