I'm thinking of getting some gear and picking up the game. Do any of y'all play and do you enjoy it?

Tried it but didn't like it...injury rate has skyrocketed in this sport..probably because of the age of most players...a lot of shoulder and knee surgeries.

Name a sport that does not have injuries. Even golf has knee, back and pulled muscles.

Than tennis would. As I read by another poster recently, it's a game that must have been invented by orthopedists to boost business...and it's working.

Older demographic who go from the couch to the court. Injuries have little to do with the sport and everything to do with the people who play

Shoes, shoes, shoes. Get the appropriate court shoes for indoor or outdoor. I have a dance, cheerleader background and never had a ball sport that I could play. I love pickleball. I will never be great but, I have fun.

I play 5 days per week for a total of 15 hours. Read and watch all the videos to understand the strategy/drills but actual work on the court is the best teacher.
Find a pickleball recreational league to start. This will provide a good foundation for intermediate play in a more competitive environment.
i'm 66 and playing at a 4.0 level but I'm putting in the time practicing/playing. It is much more fun that I ever realized it would be. In fact, it is quite addicting.

FreezeSleeve is your friend. The hot/cold therapy is great for recovery and pain management. Check it out on Amazon. I ordered 2 calf/elbow and 2 knee sleeves. I use them every day after playing.

invented it.
But it's still fun. Like open-air pingpong.
If youre a shade old, just play within your limits and youll be fine.

decrepit would save me from my own self. I know, beyond any shadow of a broken down doubt, that a pickle ball court is some of the most taboo real estate on earth for me! Harummph, Harummph, Harummph!

Go for it. The equipment cost is low so you don’t have much to lose if you find out it’s not for you. Get a composite racquet, not a cheap wooden one. I’d recommend a court shoe too. If you’ve never played before, a beginner’s class could be worthwhile to get introduced to the rules, but more importantly to meet people and as a way to get plugged into the community. Pickleball groups in most places are really welcoming of new people. I think it’s a great way to get some exercise and make some social connections.
