Portal Musings

Nov 30, 2022, 8:33 AM

The news of Dacari Collins officially announcing his intent to transfer (I know he left the team in September) has my mind whirling this morning with regards to the transfer portal. I know that Dabo has been staunchly against bringing in transfers, but I feel like this may be the year that we may finally see one or two pickups that can actually help us (HJ transferred in essentially as a student coach). Thought Collins is the only one currently, I strongly feel that EJ Williams is probably the next departure from the Tigers. His body language, lack of effort, and general apathy make it seem as if he has no interest in continuing his career in the upstate. Two open scholarships for the right receivers could seriously help re-charge the offense. A fast and capable slot receiver (A. Williams), a physical, bruiser receiver (A. Randall), and two of the taller, long-ball guys (More Deon Cain/Tee Higgins/Justyn Ross) grabs from the portal could be absolutely beautiful to watch next year. Obviously, selecting the right talent/fit from the transfer portal is not easy, and I'm sure any potential candidates will be heavily scrutinized. I just hope that this is the year that we may finally land a more veteran player who can instantly help us.

Sounds reasonable. At least a good start.

I feel The OL is good enough to win games, but QB and WR are in need of help if we want to challenge the top 4. What we have should keep us top 15 but do need some elite WR's that are great route runners.

I will save my possible critiques for the qb position until we see how the DJ situation ends up/Cade in the Spring/arrival of Vizzina. However, if DJ transfers and we don't have a viable starter by the Spring game, I could seriously get behind having a 4th or even 5th year guy take the reigns for a season.

Ze'Vian Capers and J.J. Evans are 2 wide receivers that are currently in the portal from Auburn that we recruited and offered scholarships. Both are 4* recruited by Jeff Scott and both were heavily recruited by all the big schools.

If they were good enough for Clemson to originally offer them a scholarship they should be good enough to play for the Tigers now.

Do not know why they are leaving Auburn and do not care. Upperclassmen receivers we currently have in the room cannot catch passes or block. We need to bring in new blood and these guys need a fresh start.

Let's use some of these scholarships we usually hand out to walk-ons and bring in 2 or 3 receiver transfers and see what happens.

Bring in 4th or 5th year QB would be a good way to get rid of Klub and V.
