RB Depth Chart

My guess is Lyn-J gets the starting job. I can see if shake out like this to start the season: 1. Dixon 2. Pace 3. Rencher 4. Shipley 5. Mafah
By the middle of the season, I can see this taking place: 1. Pace 2. Dixon 3. Shipley 4. Mafah 5. Rencher
Either way, I think we are set at RB this season. We should be able to punish people with our rotation.

You think so? I guess I haven’t seen enough out of him to really have an opinion.

My GUESS (which is all it is) ...

At the end of the year, barring injury, Dixon has the most carries and the most yards. Shipley and Maffah split "second string" carries, depending on the situation, but both see significant action. Rencher, Pace, and Dukes get plenty of work too.

Pace is already basically the starter. Dixon may get a courtesy start Week 1 against UGA but everybody close to the program tells me he's our runaway #1 right now.
Mafah's on Pace's heels. What's holding him back is the usually young-guy stuff, especially pass-pro.
Dixon's a good back, but Pace is a Nick Chubb in terms of ability and skillset, and Mafah may be better than that.

Lyn-J - 1 Shipley -2 Pace - 3 Mikey - 4 Mafah -5 Rencher- 5
Mafah will move up as the season goes & he gets the playbook & blocking down.

That goes against everything we've been told. Definitely wrong.

Crazy thing about this years RB group is it really is anyone’s game. Yes Lyn J has the most time and experience but room is full of talent. Also, they ALL have to prove themselves to Coach Spiller.
IMO it’s anyone’s game to be the starter. I’m not ruling out Dukes either.

I am certainly no expert. I haven't seen enough of any of those young guys play to have any idea. I will just make this comment:
I saw Mafah pay in a couple of games last year. (Full game, streaming on the net, not just highlights.) If he is only good enough to be #4 or #5 on the depth chart, then Clemson is in OUTSTANDING shape at RB.

I realize you are trying to do Rencher a solid, but talent

wise, he ain't even on that board. Shortly after fall camp starts, I see Shipley no worse than third, and he could quickly move up. Given the makeup of the others pursuing him, I think Lyn-J will be hard pressed to keep the #1 position. He is a known quantity, whilst at least one of the others has the potential to be a breakout star.

In addition, like other camps in the past the depth chart will not be set until game week. We will be watching the RB competition all fall but I doubt Swinney will name or set a depth chart at any time keeping us all guessing until game week.

Just imagine if Bowman would’ve stayed. It would have been a filthy RB room.

The big question is who can pass block? If you can't protect DJ, you will not move up the depth chart.

I expect Dixon and Pace to have big years. I think Shipley will be used a lot in the slot, this year, with some carries. I agree Mafah will be a stud, but I think he gets a bigger role in '22 after Dixon leaves.
