Interesting to see what this committee will value, particularly in the last year of a 4-team playoff. Will their focus be on getting the 4 best teams in the playoff or on conference champions?
Like you, I think if Louisville wins, they are not a shoe in.

I posted on here 6 weeks ago that Louisville looked the part as a dark horse contender. If they beat FSU they should absolutely be in the playoffs at 12-1

Not if FSU is playing a backup QB

and other teams ahead of them don't lose. At the absolute minimum they need Texas to lose. They may also need UGA to beat Bama and Washington to beat Oregon again. And there's also still the Michigan - Ohio State loser sitting there.
Louisvilles resume is just not impressive at all. They really needed to beat a full strength FSU with Jordan Travis at QB and that's no longer possible. I think it's highly likely they would get left out.

See I don't agree with this injury nonsense. Does an NFL team get left out because of an injury? No. Neither should a college team. Injuries are part of the game and if you don't have a capable backup you will struggle. However, the qb does not win games by himself. Also either Michigan or OSU is losing this weekend. If Louisville wins they should be in the playoff period.

The NFL doesn't have 130 teams to filter down to 4. 44% of the league makes the playoffs, including every division winner. You can't compare that to college.
Louisville at 12-1 would absolutely not be a shoe-in. They would be behind:
UGA/BAMA winner OSU/MICH winner WASH/ORE winner Texas, if they win out
They would be on par with UGA/BAMA loser, OSU/MICH loser, and a one-loss Washington team.

The point is it shouldn't matter who is playing or who is hurt. If you win the ACC and beat the number 4 team in the country then you deserve to be in. If FSU wins out with their backup then they deserve to be in. This injury crap should have nothing to do with being selected.

Sure they could. Some team may need to be snubbed The Conf Champ wont mean that much and they have mentioned that before. Lousiville would have great chance of being snubbed. On the other hand, if they do go, it will prove how badly the expansion was needed. Time will tell.

I know it's popular fodder for conversation every year about undefeated or one loss teams getting left out, and as we know these things always sort themselves out by the end of the season. Upsets will happen and the herd will be thinned before that last playoff vote happens.
I am not convinced that Louisville is a top 4 team, but if they are ACC champs with only one loss, I think they deserve to be in the playoffs.

Being a conference champion is VERY important to the committee...

It is one of the criteria that they look at. Where do people get this idea that it isn't important???
"The selection committee ranks the teams based on the members' evaluation of the teams' performance on the field, using conference championships won, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, and comparison of results against common opponents to decide among teams that are comparable."

I absolutely don’t see them getting in unless chaos breaks loose. A one loss Oregon or a one loss Texas if both of them win their conference will knock Louisville out. I don’t see anyone beating Georgia , ohio state/michigan winner more iikeky is in , pac 12 winner is probably in , I think Louisville needs a lot of help.

wins that year and the fact that KB was hurt in that game probably helped. This Louisville team doesn't really have good wins. ND is probably the best. Outside of that it's Duke with a backup QB and a fairly mediocre Miami team.
Also, 5 of their wins have been by single digits and some of those were against bad teams.
They just don't have a playoff caliber resume right now.

You can't lose to Pitt by 17. Off the top of my head I think 2017 Georgia (#10 Auburn); 2020 Notre Dame (#2Clemson in ACC); and 2022 Ohio State (to #2Michigan) have lost by more than 2 scores and made it in. It certainly knocked out Ohio State in 2018 to Purdue. Two of which beat the same team they lost to (Georgia and Notre Dame)

I’ve never liked UL, going all the way back to the middle 70’s when Denny Crum Coached basketball there. However……when Louisville Coaches get caught cheating or just being general scumbags, Louisville FIRES them……MUCH UNLIKE STINKING BIG 10 SCHOOLS THAT LAWYER UP.
So, I would actually pull for Louisville against any lying cheating Big 10 school.

Whether or not they get in at 12-1 I would still love to see them hang 60 on their in-state rival this week. That fraud of a very limited team has been used as a “quality win” for other SEC mids to be ranked high. Purely incestuous.

The committee may finally take a two loss team if Bama loses a close one. Is Bama better than Louisville? Yes. Are they more deserving than a 12-1 ACC champ? No. We’ll have to listen to the dumbest phrase in college football. The dreaded eye test.

Normally I would agree with you, but the reality of no divisions, Louisville’s conference schedule was trash. They would have two good wins, but I think I’d have a hard time putting them as a top 4 team.

If it comes down to a one loss Michigan non conference champ then I think UofL gets the nod. The cheating scandal gives the committee some non-stated justification. Other scenarios vs one loss PAC12 or Big12 champs just doesn’t work wrt the resume test. The Cards would be on the outside looking in.

Firstly, Louisville is not winning the ACCCG so there is no 12-1 LU
1
Nov 20, 2023, 11:41 AM
|
|
Here's who's getting in:
The SEC champion (13-0 Georgia or 12-1 Alabama) without fail The B1G champion (13-0 tOSU or 13-0 Michigan)* FSU at 13-0^ Washington at 13-0%
Waiting in the wings if we get an upset in *, ^ or %, and in this order: Georgia at 12-1 A 12-1 tOSU or Michigan The Big XII champion Texas at 12-1
* If Iowa somehow beats the B1G East champion, we could have a B1Gless playoff. ^ If FSU loses to Florida or Looville, they are excluded at 12-1. ^ Looville would be excluded at 12-1. They are not in the playoff picture. % Washington could potentially stay in if losing one of the next two, but would need help.
I think the most likely scenario is: 1. Georgia (13-0) 2. Ohio State or Michigan (13-0)...totally unsure about Saturday's outcome 3. Washington (13-0) 4. Florida State (13-0)

You are vastly underestimating Texas’ resume. They are ahead of Alabama right now and if both win out, they are both one loss, conference champions. But Texas has a head to head over Alabama and would remain ahead of them.
