Perhaps those not surprised do not understand this is his first year in the program and he basically lost his entire OL from last season.

Thats great and all, but this is one of the historically worst offenses in the history of UVA. Losing your OL is one thing. Nobody expected him to win the conference. To lose in the manner he is losing shows his mindset offensively. Im convinced Dabo was not that worried about losing Elliot. His play calling is so archaic.

The offense had one off year in 7 with Tony

And that was due to a barely functioning QB, 7 different OL lineups, injuries at WR, and inexperience at RB. Other than that we were the most successful offense in college football, save Alabama. Even considering the issues last year, there's not on OC during his 7 years that can be claimed as better. Yes, Tony Elliott is the best OC of the CFP era. Please gimme a break on the micro sample sizing and lack of consideration of the bigger pictures.
UVA's current issues, in year 1, are not due to poor coaching by Elliott. To say that it to not understand football.

You're showing how ignorant you are. Elliott the best, hahahaha! He was best CFP Loser. All teams suffer injuries as we have this year but were able to still win. Just have to make the right adjustments. Glad he is finally gone & we can now move on to more Championship Playoffs & National Championships. Heck there was a 10 year old boy sitting behind us the last several years & was calling the plays before they ever snapped the ball. DUH!!! 2015 Lost Orange Bowl / 2017 Lost Sugar Bowl / 2019 Lost Fiesta Bowl / 2020 Lost Sugar Bowl. FYI

Every team has injuries yes, but when's the last time you saw a team have so many injuries at the receiver position that they're literally starting walk-on players to go along with true freshman? Then in addition to that the same team has injuries on the OL, its best player is a true freshman running back who also missed some games, and the QB is a former 5 star player that didn't play anywhere near to his ranking and also played through injuries himself? When is the last time you saw a team deal with all those issues and just continue putting up huge offensive numbers?

Convenient to leave out the records in 2016, and 2018. Tony Elliott's over all record in the playoffs is 6-4. 2-2 in National Championship games and 4-2 in 1st round games. Definitely not a Loser there bro! Every team not named Alabama would absolutely give away the farm for that record. So your argument is certainly not valid!

Last week he had 1st and goal at the 2 and did not score. He then had 1st and goal at the 3 and only got a field goal. I know an offensive line is important but come on that has to be some bad play calling in there for you to run 4 plays at the 2 and not score against Miami this was not against Bama.

Scoring TDs in the red zone comes down to one of three things: 1. Exploiting Mismatches 2. OL imposing itself 3. Creative play calling
If you don't have guys who can do #1, or a line that can do #2, the OC must save a few plays for #3. It's where he earns his money.

Because Elliott is the only OC to ever coach good players, right? Because every OC with a great QB and running back ends up winning a NC right?
Obviously having talented players never hurt any coach, but it's stupid to just assume that just any coach would've had the same results with those players. It's crazy to me that nobody seems to say the same about BV. You could go on and on and on with naming elite defensive talent that BV had to work with at Clemson, and yet everyone seemed to agree that he was the best DC in the country. Never did I hear anyone saying it was the Power Rangers that made him look so good.
It's much the same as people would find games we lost and point out how the offense didn't play very well as proof of Elliott not doing a good job here, but nobody seemed to do the same against BV when we gave up 45 points to Bama in our 45-40 loss in the 2015 NC game, or how his defense gave up a late lead against Bama in the 2016 NC game only to be bailed out by the offense on the last drive. Heck, people blamed Elliott for the LSU game even though the defense gave up touchdowns on 3 straight 2nd quarter drives and gave up a total of 42 points.
To further that point, here's a thread with people making a point of Elliott not being a good OC due to how he's performed so far as a head coach, but I don't see anyone discrediting BV as a DC due to how Oklahoma has looked this season with BV as the HC.
To be clear, I think BV was the best DC in the country and I think it's far too early to judge him as a head coach. I also think how he's doing as a head coach says nothing about his ability as a DC, and the games I mentioned above with him as our DC does nothing to take away from his overall job as our DC. I'm only making the point that those same points are true for Elliott and that there seems to be a double standard for some reason.

I think you go full embarrassing to Tony Elliott if he were in year 3.
He didn't recruit any of the kids who are on the roster now.
Unless looking for a reason to criticize him, I think that stands to reason.
He is the HC too BTW, not the OC.

Bad situation. Administration better take a patience pill.

......makes $4.1M dollars this year. In the last four years, Coach Elliott will have made a bit over $8M. That's a pretty good income for a Clemson engineer. I liked his work for Clemson and I wish him luck coaching Virginia.

I was there for that game "rooting" for UVA (youngest goes there). Talk about a pillow fight and they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at the very end.
At least they serve pretty good beer in the stadium!

Tony should have kept the off cord and offense they were running at VA. Big Mistake. He will eventually get it worked out but he did not have to have a losing season. That is on him.
