Serious question - does Wake Forest really have a

"home field" advantage, as we associate it with ourselves and other schools? Other than not having to travel? I've seen many times where our fans are just as loud, if not louder, than their's when we play at their place.

That's one thing that made the upsets of TA&M and Notre Dame so big a couple of weeks ago is those stadiums typically have a major home field advantage with all of the fans and how loud it can get. But I've never known WFU to really pack it out and make it loud.

In terms of fan support, noise, etc - about the only advantage I see they have is that they don't have to travel and they're in their own locker room, but there's really not much of the other things that come with home field advantage in many other stadiums.

I would think that an opponent's fans out shouting your own would be depressing. I know if, as a player, I walked out and saw more orange than black and heard more cheering for the other team than mine, I would wonder why I was there.

Isn't home field advantage more than just crowd noise? You're only going to play up there two, maybe three, times in your career. So things like familiarity with the turf, location of the play clock/scoreboard, the travel itself, etc. etc. etc. could all contribute to some level of a cumulative advantage.

Two specific and significant examples I can list from memory:
-In Coral Gables for afternoon games, I remember noticing that the stadium was arraged so that the Home team got early shade, but the visiting team was in the sun all day (it may be different now)
-Two trips ago to College Station the heat index was 100+ and our boys took a long bus ride to the stadium in a bus that the A/C went out. When getting off the bus they all looked like they had already played the game

Turf is a big one! We seem to lose our footing quite a bit when we go up there to play.

The advantage Wake Forest or Duke have is that there’s no gameday atmosphere. It can make the game feel like just going through the motions so good leadership is needed to make the whole team stay engaged. Of course we always hear about how good our offense is in practice, so maybe they’ll show up and show out in WF’s stadium.

disadvantage. No excitement, dull atmosphere. Not so motivating to play in, as DV. It's a big country club with half the people lounging around eating wine and cheese, from what I can gather.
