Serious question about Cade

I think that most of us can agree that Cade leaves something to be desired in the passing game this year. Do you believe that he can turn into a good passer in the next year or 2?

Yes I do. I haven't had time to watch the game since I got home, but only remember 1 series where he looked good throwing the ball today. I agree the recievers and line have not done him any favors, but I don't believe that he has been a top 30 qb this year.

Our OL hasn't been top 30. Our RBs haven't been top 30. Our WRs have been far from top 30. How can Cade be top 30 if the surrounding cast is barely top 100 out of 130.
Cade looked pretty decent today, not perfect. Cade just turned 20 this wk, only 10 starts, and played behind a mess all year.
Just give Cade a solid plan, solid RB, OL moving based on exact play and not RPO.
Cade not the problem but has some work.

While not a frosh in name as he’s a sophomore it’s still his first year. He’s not a phenom like Trevor, but no way he isn’t immediately better next year after a year of starting.
You won’t see a “green” Cade like you did against Duke to start the season next year. How much that improves the team record wise who knows, but he should def be better.

Monday and Tuesday. I think he’s a great passer when he has time.

This year doesn’t fall solely on Cades arm…our wrs have not helped him out and the oline hasn’t either. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t hit the ground running, like I think we were all expecting, given Riley’s past performances.
Next year we will see some growth across the entire offense.

Our WRs are not a problem, even with AW out.

Cade has not been seeing the field well at all and he’s not adjusted to the college game while in the pocket. A lot of the alledged “pressure” is due to his to-be-developed pocket presence and the game slowing down for him.
He was not seeing open passing options today. Not going thru progressions well at all, and he’s panicking at the first feel of a rush.
The WRs are not a problem on this team. They are not a reason for 4 losses. A developing QB and catastrophic turnovers are at the root of all 4 losses.
The OL needs a new coach, to your point.

You’re getting confused with expecting Tee Higgins.
Receivers are open nearly every passing play. The QB is not seeing the field well.

(The interception definitely wasn’t his fault) and made some nice passes when he needed to. Most impressive thing today from Cade, was he didn’t drift back and hold onto the ball when a receiver wasn’t open

Their are three things I need to see him improve in in these last few games: 1) feel and anticipate pressure/get rid of the ball in those instances, 2) don’t try to do too much/play within the system, and 3) stop turning the ball over, which is a direct result of not doing the first two things and honestly the biggest disappointment with the whole team so far. You cannot turn the ball over consistently and expect to win no matter how much more talented your team is.

Cade is a better than average passer. His major areas of needed improvement are in ball protection (handoffs and while dropping back to pass) and deciding making/ reads.

He leaves something to be desired. He wont be playing on Sunday unless there is some massive development over the summer.

Stetson Bennett lost his starting job as an underclassman.

He didn’t look good and certainly not like a draft pick. Then he got better.
9 times out of 10, QBs take time to figure the college game out. Trevor Lawrence’s are the exception to the rule.
Assuming Penn State moves into the top 10, they will be the only one with an underclassman QB. That’s the way it goes in the majority of the time.

I feel like he needs a lot of coaching. Needs to get smarter .He drifts with decisions and play. Sometimes he drops a dime and other times ge makes boneheaded plays/decisions.
Today vs Notre Dame, the throw early to TE over the middle in the red zone. He threw it feet above the plater and almost committed an INT in the end zone.
So I hope he steps up and grows up to lead this team.

As I sit switching between the LSU-Bama & USC-Washington game, looking at these teams QBs it is apparent Cade leaves a lot to be desired. While it is true he doesn't have the OL of Bama or the WRs of LSU and USC but what he seems to really be deficient at is recognition and decision making. He doesn't have great arm strength and he's not really fast on his feet. Maybe he can get improve with time and more talented personnel around him, but I am not sold.

I don't cringe when it's a pass play like I did with big Stinko. I do not have 100% faith in him either. He should get better and better based on what high school film I saw. Glad he is here and Stinko is gone til this day.

He's having a really bad year though. Its not all his fault, obviously, but his yards per attempt average is really bad, he's turned it over way too much and in the most disastrous fashion, and hes brought nothing to the running game which is perhaps the most surprising thing for me. I thought he could be an asset in the running game, but it's really been the exact opposite. He's been worse in that regard than DJ which is kind of hard to fathom.

Has a lot to learn and improve on before playing at a great or elite level. Like most QBs coming up. Trevor Lawrence types are the exception

Right. I asked my brother today if Kelly Bryant would be better than Cade right now for this offense.
Kelly at least added the extra dimension of the run. Cade for sure worse than DJ running the ball. Cannot run an RPO with no threat at QB.

I was watching JJ McCarthy last night. He’s made huge strides since last season. Cade has similar physical tools, but the mental side is so much more important towards becoming consistent. Thus, I think McCarthy as an example can give us hope that another year working with Riley will raise his game so that the offense can be productive (assuming they can put a competent Oline together).

He’s def shown flashes and is still very young… I expect to see a big jump next year for sure with the wr room getting better for him. The biggest disappointment for me is really his inability to run… I thought we would see some busted big runs from him and use him more in the run game a little. I realize we can’t afford to get him hurt but I thought we would see him take off a lot more when something wasn’t open…we know he’s fast as hell but seems like he’s a very indecisive runner right now which can def change with time too. I know we all say it but this team has potential to be very very good next year if the OL picks it up and gets better (looked a lot better today), and the wr room continues to progress… I mean all you had to do was watch the game today and see the future on defense.

He isn't great but he's much better than DJ as a sophomore. If he improves he could be a force next season.
