So do the knee braces worn by OL & TEs - Sage - really work

I haven’t gone back and checked, but I seem to recall that Sage as a blocking TE, wore these knee braces like the OL.
I wonder just how effective these knee braces are to prevent ligament tears.
Does anyone know any statistics that are something on the order of: knee braces worn by OL playing football have been shown to reduce ligament damage during games by 78%.
I’m asking about this as I just received my first right knee replacement last Tuesday, after 28 years removed from ACL surgery on that knee.
I hate it for Sage, as I’m quite sure he will be where I am in about 30 years.

Yes. Do I have a percentage? No. But my athletic trainer who was extremely well studied and was all about statistics harped on the OL wearing braces like crazy. It's obviously a no Brainer, like seatbelts, or they wouldn't do it. Every team does. It's to prevent tears from rolling up the back of your knees by RBs and stuff. I myself have torn both. What surgery did you have if you don't mind me asking? Patellar tendon replacement? I think that's all they did back then. I'm going on about 20 years on one and 16 on the other. Also, how was the regression of your knee? Like why do you need a replacement now?

I’m 60 and my knees have seen some wear and tear, but this thread makes them ache even more. I hope y’all are getting relief from the docs. I cannot even imagine undergoing the procedures y’all are talking about.

Heck I play high school ball and my knees will just randomly hurt and pop. Im starting to think I need one but ive cut a lot of weight so I might be a fullback or blocking tightend next season.

For the cumulative study period, bracers demonstrated a significantly lower rate of major knee injuries than nonbracers (0.013 vs 0.049 injuries per player, respectively; P = .04). Isolated MCL injury was the most common injury for nonbracers. There was no group difference in performance for the cumulative study period or during most individual seasons. Yearly prevalence of PKB usage declined steadily from 16.3% in 2014 to 5.6% in 2020. A subgroup analysis of rookie players demonstrated an overall downtrend in usage during the study period as well.

With all the piles inside, and knees getting bent in ways they were not meant

to go, those braces have got to be a lifesaver for O-Linemen. A tight end used primarily in blocking schemes, same thing.

My son was OG in high school. Got a new coach between soph and jr season. First thing he did was put all linemen in knee braces. No knee injuries for at least 2 seasons.

I think I recall Holtz having them worn during practice when he was at USuC. And supposedly overtime it would weaken the knees slightly but would suit Holtz's purposes in a typical 4 year window—

Short answer is "Yes". I wore them, and sons of RB are wearing them now. They work.

There are no game or practice pictures of him wearing the OL knee braces. He needed mobility too much to lock them down.
