So how about this factor in our demise?

We essentially had 3 generational qb’s in a row. Tahj, Deshaun and Trevor. Almost unbroken in Dabo’s tenure. We have not been a powerful offense since Trevor. Obviously, there are multiple factors that play in. But a top-tier qb makes it easier on both sides of the ball.

We had some pretty good receivers and RBs (with some combination of wiggle, power, or speed) during that tenure of QBs as well.

Tajh's deep ball was better than Deshaun or Trevor.

Also, 2012 defense was terrible, and in 2013 FSU was an all time great team, and USuc's best team ever.
Tajh was just less consistent than Trevor or Deshaun.

There were only two true generational QB's: DW4 and TL16. Tahj was a great Clemson man and person, but nowhere close to being a generational QB.

Agree. We forget the ACC records he held. He gets demerits because of his record against the Gamecocks and the WVU Orange Bowl. But he had great moments against LSU and OhioSt. He was a very good college QB well fitted to run the Morris offense.

The WVU bowl game! We also had a fumble 6 going in to score before that game got out of hand!

My memory is that Tahj had several records until Deshaun and Trevor broke them. I don't say he was generational but he was a dadgum good QB and if we didn't have him, we might never have signed CJ and who knows what would have happened then.

I'm sure it is a factor.

But, I suspect it is not the major factor.
Note: Having a "generational" QB certainly helps in winning a national championship. And, it seems to be more important every year.
FSU has 3 national championships. QBs were Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke and Jamies Winston. Anybody know what else they have in common? (No, I'm not talking about their love of crab legs. I'm talking about that trophy they have on their mantle at home.)

Boyd was a fantastic QB. He didn’t have the supporting group that Watson or Lawrence had. The Peach Bowl game, won by Boyd, was perhaps the best Tiger game that I have seen in my 64 years or attending Tiger games. Klubnik couldn’t carry Boyd jock!
Go Tigers. Recruit some tough guys, regardless of their background. If they are good young men and students and know how to kick a$$: give them an Orange jersey. Don’t take it personally if they aren’t interested in the new hope tabernacles.

He had some of the best offensive weapons in Clemson history. Oline was not that bad, pretty much the same as it has been with little push....honestly while the *star talent may not be as good, I think the Oline during Tajh time was every bit as good if not better than current.
Maybe defense was not as good since Brent had not been here or had time to get the guys he wanted on defense, so I am with you there.
But the offensive talent was great

...coaching, and player development help too.
Don't assume for a skinny minute that if we had D4W or TL on this team we'd be making the CFP, much less winning a natty.

I said earlier without Tahj we might not have had CJ but that was wrong because CJ came first. A look at ACC records shows that Tahj really was a generational QB as he is in the Top 10 of several categories in ACC history. The ACC website has the media guide and it has tons and tons of great information.

Deshaun and Trevor were generational. Tajh was not.
All 3 of them had much better skill players surrounding them. Cade is obviously still young and is pressing way too much, leading to mistakes. But he also doesn't have the talent around him like those 3 had. They all had better RBs, WRs, and OL.

I agree that the level of quarterback play these last three years is likely the most contributing factor, but I will also argue that Clemson's seeming decline in talent also coincides the the increase in talent of two neighbors - UNC and UGA. Perhaps they are both benefitting from top players that may have chosen Clemson a few years ago.

Boyd was great once he kicked his Chic-fit-A habit.
He might not have been able to overcome the disaster against Duke, but with him we'd be 5-1, if not 6-0.

It all begins with the play of a solid and dominant offensive line which we do not have at this time! All which brings to mind just what have we been building here?
