family vacation 8 adults 3 small children. All 8 adults got covid within a couple of days.

My wife and I just had covid after another vacation trip in October. I guess either a different strain or there is no immunity for us. Symptoms were almost the same. Insane congestion, sore throat, headache...basically a really bad cold. Some tested positive for covid. Me and wifey didn't test, why bother, one of my kids tested negative but she clearly had the exact same symptoms.

There is a silent wave going on now.

It's called XBB.1.5, and that's probably what you have, especially if in NC. This variant is (has already) gone through the northeast states, but it's also found heavily in VA and NC. It's growing now in the south rapidly. If you had covid, any variant, with any vaccine, 2 months or more ago, or 1 month ago if not in the northeast, you will be wide open to getting this one. You probably had some flavor of the BQ.1 variant 2 months ago, and that offers almost no immunity to XBB.1.5. The Wuhan vaccines ARE USELESS against it. The bivalent vaccine booster, if you got one or more, only offers maybe 10% or 15% VE against it. So essentially the vax is useless or almost useless (if bivalent boosted).

It's making inroads in SC too, we just don't realize it yet because we're SC. NC stays on top of things better. It's probably no more serious than others, but the immune escape means you're almost at square 1 fighting it. It's putting significantly more elderly people in hospitals, as a proportion, because it escapes immunity so well.

Hope you feel better soon.

All five of my brother-in-law's family tested positive this weekend.
