Those are nice stats but they don't factor in the fact that Deshaun and Trevor were watching from the sideline early in the 3rd quarter during majority of those games. He is doing a better job of taking care of the ball though. Kudo's to DJ for his improvement.

DJ has gotten better but those guys were on a different stratosphere then DJ. He's a QB who will win alot of games though and he's been making good decisions so i eat crow for my criticism early on in the year.
Trevor and Deshuan rarely finished games unless it was an absolute must have them to win game. In fairness to DJ he can only do as well as playcalling and his teammates allow him. Trevor and Deshaun had some dudes they played with that let them run throw lesser competition quickly.

Don’t leave out T Higgins and Hunter Renfrow. To me those two were the most reliable receivers ever when it counted. Never did understand why Trevor didn’t throw to Hunter very much.

I can concede him having a stronger arm.
Touch, accuracy, leadership, pocket movement, ability to extend plays, and ability to process a defense are all to Watson and Lawerence.
DJ is doing his best and playing good ball, hard to ask for much more. Don't see him going down as a Clemson legend like the other 2.

Touch and accuracy is where DJ has really excelled this year, especially with the long ball.
He is hitting receivers in stride, they don’t slow down for a half a step and they don’t reach forward for a half step, they catch it in stride and keep running.

He doesn’t have a stronger arm than either. TL is the best QB I’ve ever seen at the HS level and one of the top college QBs and that includes a strong arm.

DJ has improved drastically. But the only things I see still needing improvement are: 1. Not seeing open receivers because he still sometimes locks onto one receiver . 2. Holds onto the ball too long/ pocket awareness/internal clock. Pick whichever one is suitable. Causing him to take unnecessary sacks or just getting back to the line of scrimmage.

i'm very happy with the way DJ has played this year but stats like these have to be analyzed a little bit. DJ is a junior for one, those guys were sophomores. DJ is playing his best football of his career right now where some people may have argued those guys were going through the worst part of their Clemson careers. The biggest stat I'm worried about is 2022 DJ: 4-3 after 7 games, 2023 DJ: 7-0 after 7 games and way better TD/INT ratio

Some people will do whatever it takes to not give their own QB a fair shot. No matter what happens your just going to hate the kid. Congrats on eliminating Clemson from any consideration by his younger brother an outstanding DE/TE recruit in this class. Obviously you’ve never seen him play, but he’s really good and I wish him well wherever he goes.

Agreed, and as the freshman are getting more experience, don't we see the passing game improving? Ladson didn't pan out and there just wasn't an over the top deep threat or a Renfrow-like go-to receiver last year

The ultimate test is which one do you want on your college football team if you have a choice? DJ would be my third choice and I wouldn't even want him then. It's not even close for me. He has improved drasticall;y in several areas but some things just aren't going to improve. I think he would be much better with a real offensive play caller sending in the signs.

While I get what you did with the second year starter thing. I think it’s only fair to compare the third season regardless of starter status. Because DJs first year he still was able to practice against college level talent and learn the play book and even got to be the starter in two games. Still have a TU. Good post.

Deshaun didn't have Mike his 2nd year.
Artavis was a sophomore, Renfrow was a rsFR, Deon and Ray Ray were true freshmen.
Tee is better than all of them. Ross was healthy and looked like a future 1st round pick. Amari was dangerous in the slot, even coming off an ACL injury. Trevor also had Overton, Powell, and Ngata.

Great stats, I love em
To be fair though totals don't always tell the whole story. As someone pointed out we were blowing people out frequently in 15 and 19 and those boys sat a lot late in games. You need to combine the totals with what % each had of the team total through 7 games.
As you can see DJ has a good bit higher % of the teams attempts, completions, and yards.
DW COMP 88% ATT 86% YDS 89% TDS 100% INT 90%
TL COMP 83% ATT 82% YDS 85% TDS 88% INT 90%
DJ COMP 94% ATT 93% YDS 96% TDS 94% INT 100%

93/137 for 1466 yards. DJ in his "non-starting" first year went 78/117 for 914 yards which isn't a whole lot less time.

I would compare his stats to Deshaun. Deshaun played in 8 games as a freshman attempting 137 passes. DJ in 2020 played in 9 games attempting 117 passes.
Deshaun's Junior year through 7 games: Passing: 1950 yards, TD: 20, Int: 8. 3 of the 7 games Clemson played backup qb's, with sc state being 5 qb's.
DJ's freshman year he had 117 attempts.
DJ's Junior year to date: Passing: 1665, TD 17, INT 2. 3 of the 7 games Clemson has played backup qb's have entered the game.

Deshaun threw 20 more passes his freshman year than DJ did his. If you're going to count 2015 as Deshaun's first year starting you need to count 2020 as DJ's. Regardless of any of these comparisons, DJ is finally balling out. If he had played like this last year we make the playoffs. Kudos to him for the light finally coming on. He's throwing with touch, he's moving well in the pocket to avoid pressure, he's not panicking, he's seeing open receivers, he's even throwing guys open on occasion. The receivers and Oline aren't markedly better than last year but DJ is.

The OL is insanely better though. This OL has played very well they're just the usual scapegoat for fans that don't really understand OL play.
People honestly expect the OL to hold up for 6 seconds a play, for all 5 guys to never lose a snap, and for 5 guys to block 7 guys.
Honestly the OL critic has me feeling like some feel about DJ, they are unjustly faulted for situations out of their control.
Sometimes the defense is in the right play at the right time.
