So...I attended the soccer match last night...

Nov 3, 2022, 8:54 AM

What a lot of people don't realize, the soccer team has really struggled to stay healthy this season between COVID and injuries. Over seventeen games, the team has started seventeen different lineups. Really hard to develop any continuity and team chemistry doing that. To say that Noonan has done a fantastic job with this team would be an understatement. Really good win last night although the team needs to do a better job of finishing games. Got a little sloppy on offense and defense trying to run out the clock after getting-up 3-0. On to Duke on Sunday. Tough challenge. Duke is undefeated on the season. They are currently ranked No. 3 nationally and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. It is a game Clemson can win, but they'll have to play better than they did last night.

Thanks. I had wondered what was causing their struggles. I don't get to see much of their matches.

Is Isaiah Reid having a good year? Not heard much from him.

His minutes are down compared to last year...

He has been used as a reserve almost as much as he has started. He started last night and played about 60 minutes. As I recall, he took 2 or 3 shot so goal (missed on he should have made). Noonan pulled him after his third or fourth foul.

Will have to play one of our finer matches. Can't expect Duke to help us out like the Irish did with a couple of 'own goals.'

Good post. Noonan is the Dabo of college soccer! He really knows the game and is a great influence on his players who really work hard for him . I had the pleasure of sitting with coach Swinney and coach Noonan and the new AD at a “Prowl and Growl” earlier this year and it is very, very rewarding to an OLD alum to see this kind of gentlemen leading Tiger sports. Makes me proud to be a supporter. Join the crowd!

Agree, his post is definitely worthy of POTD.

No doubt, after last year, this year has been a struggle. The puzzle pieces have been missing and now they face a huge task of playing the best team in the best conference in the nation. Duke must be a really good team because going undefeated in the ACC is amazing.

They've had three or four ties...

That aside, they're a good team.

Last night was first game I didn't make this year. Hard to get chemistry with 17 different starting lineups this season but Noonan was forced to give a lot of young players significant playing time this year. Could pay dividends going into the NCAA tournament.

If we upset Duke, should get a first round bye in the NCAA tourney which means hosting 2nd round. I think we still host 1st round even with a loss to Duke. Not currently ranked but our RPI is strong at 13.
