because I haven't played baseball in over 50 years and I am at a loss in my attempts to explain why we yank a guy after he walks a man, then we leave Gordon in today while UNCG shells him like it is batting practice. I don't really have an issue with letting a guy work to get in shape but why do that at the expense of the team, then turn around and pull the next guy if he looks crosseyed at a batter. Thanks for the help!

Fortunately, coaches have the answer, they get paid big bucks to make decisions.

It’s early in the season and the coaches are still experimenting with pitching rotations, etc.
It will pay off. They’ll have it optimized for a late season run.

I’m simply a baseball fan without any special qualifications, yet I’ll offer up my 2 cents.
Like another poster mentioned, the coaches get paid to make the decisions, but there are SO many factors to consider.
Here’s just a few:
Maybe the pitcher is L with 3 of the 4 batters also L?
Maybe the next couple of batters are in a slump?
The pitcher is a 3 year veteran who has the mentality to give up a few runs without losing confidence?
Or the pitcher is an inexperienced freshman/sophomore who the coaches are hoping to slowly ease into the season?
Upcoming batters with tendencies, to pitchers with different personalities, to pitchers on different pitch counts and schedules, to many many more factors.
All of which sometimes has to be calculated on the fly or within a minute or two…,certainly not easy imo.

PS I do play MLB The Show so I at least have that “coaching” background. 😊🤣
