Maybe I didn’t hear everything but it’s getting old seeing all the responses talking about how dumb the 1.5% comments were and calling out the fanbase… i listened to that multiple times and if those comments upset you that much then maybe you are part of the problem … I just don’t get it , he literally just spoke truth that every program and every fanbase in every sport has a small percentage of fans that are vocal and basically don’t know what they are talking about… what am I missing here I don’t take it as hun attacking or calling out the fanbase at all … he literally said 98.5% of the fanbase is awesome and great but he just pointed out a fact that exists everywhere lol just not understanding all of the butt hurt over the comments i really don’t…

Key paragraph regarding his comments last Monday:
“We’re at a point in our time — and I hate that — where people (think) if you don’t go undefeated, you’re losers and you’re terrible,” Swinney said in response to Monday’s caller. “It’s just such a terrible mindset. Honestly, maybe we need to lose a few games and lighten up the bandwagon. Sometimes, the bandwagon can get a little too full.”

Do we seriously think he’s being serious saying that I mean come on guys it was a joke calling out that small percentage of bandwagon fans that we def have now … you can see em everywhere. Seriously these comments were not that serious and blown up to be this huge thing. He’s made comments like this in a smart behind joking way his entire career… this is not a big deal at all ImO. Ppl have super thin skin now days I guess, I didn’t take it as him wanting to actually lose games I mean are we that dumb that we believe that hahaha this is ridiculous

The comments themselves weren’t a big deal, but then, when you talk about needing to lose more games to lighten the bandwagon and all of that mess, it really is ridiculous.
There was no reason for him to make any reference to the fans. He needs to deal with the internal issues that are obviously Causing this team to underperform and not be prepared.
I wasn’t concerned about the comments as much as the fact that he felt he needed to address outside issues when he has always been one that has said he only focuses on what happens inside of his building.

Anytime a coach thinks losing games might be a hood thing you have a problem.
He is fat and happy making millions of people who put a decent chunk of their funds into Clemson Football- most of whom don’t expect perfection but do expect effort and a will to win.

Losing more games...period. End of story. I have a deep respect for Dabo, he helped me bridge a gap with my Son years ago, but the bottom line is a head coach should never, ever, say "And honestly, maybe we need to lose a few games and lighten up the bandwagon."

Calling out the fans is never going to go over well for a coach. I don't think he's wrong in saying fans are spoiled but that's not going to be appreciated by the fanbase.

Why don't you ask the National Media what all the hubbub is about? It sure drew a lot of unwanted attention that our potential recruits don't need to be reading or seeing. The one-liners are tolerable when you are winning but highly unnecessary when you aren't.

Dabo doesn't need to say anything about the fans.
What Dabo needs to do is his job and prepare his team to play in a football game. He clearly didn't do that the past two weeks and frankly hasn't done that for a few years now given the sub par performance we've seen on the field the last 12 months.
This football team is 5 - 5 in their last ten games. That is really bad. It's not like we play a murderer's row.
The comment about losing some more games to empty the bandwagon was idiotic and arrogant. Ironically, he is going to do that anyway because his team and coaches flat out suck right now running into the toughest part of our schedule.
Dabo will be fine because he is paid $11mm a year even if he loses every game he plays.
But don't expect the fans that invest so much financially and time-wise into this program to sit quietly by and fawn and worship Dabo for what he did in the past. He has already been paid for that production.

Dabo has been given everything he's asked for at Clemson. He has been give ALL the tools! And that's due to a fanbase that gives generously to IPTAY. If you're too thin-skinned to handle hearing some criticism, you at least need to keep your mouth shut and not alienate the fanbase or create a divide. And it blows up in your face when you turn around and lay an egg.

Agreed. Saying to the 98.5 that maybe we need to lose a few and then going out and losing the next one is not cool. That would be cause for firing at a lot of places.
