Stanford makes the league instantly better in a few sports

Baseball, softball, soccer, tennis (men’s and women’s in both, women’s basketball, volleyball and swimming (even though we don’t have it).
So yeah for football it’s a big nothing burger but greatly enhances all those sports. So IMO worth it. They aren’t a worse football program than many already in the ACC and they beat the brakes off nearly everyone from the all sports perspective.

That’s great and all, but those are non rev sports that would not exist without football, and generally, don’t matter, no disrespect to those sports as I enjoy baseball. I tried to explain this to Tobacco Road team fans I know, that the pinstripe bowl draws higher ratings than UNC/Duke basketball.

Yeah but I mean does adding them actually hurt football?

Why are they worse than say Boston College or Syracuse for that sport.

Travel distance. Boston and Syracuse are bad enough. Throw Miami in to that as well. In the end I don't care all that much because I really didn't want to see us in the SEC or B1G but to answer your question travel makes them worse

I see what you’re saying, Stanford is an elite school academically, and yes they do excel in those programs you mentioned. But the fact that they are in California, and our athletes and staff will have to travel cross-country with already demanding schedules, makes no sense. The time and money will be ridiculous. Also, we have nothing in common with Stanford or Cal, especially Cal. The whole point of conferences is for schools with similar goals, programs, ideals, culture, same region, to unite and be successful (SEC).
This all reeks of desperation. For the ACC and Calford and SMU.

But let's be honest here...NONE of these sports could exist WITHOUT FOOTBALL.
So to your point, I don't believe it makes our conference "stronger". Exhibit A would be Notre Dame.

That's kind of a ridiculous statement considering there's over 100 NCAA D-1 schools that have no football program. Just one example, UC-San Diego has 11 men's and 11 women's sports (including all of the ones mentioned by T_I_P), but no football.

Football is the moneymaker. You probably didn't know so I'll forgive your ignorance but we lose money on all other sports except basketball. Think about that.

You are thinking Clemson. Stanford football certainly doesn't support all those sports - the schools incredible multi-billion $$$ endowment does. Stanford is an elite university for academics AND athletics. The most NCAA titles of any school. They have a memorial wall near the track with all the World Record holders from Stanford. I get it - Clemson only cares about football. But if the ACC is about all sports, and they claim they are, then they just struck the mother lode with Stanford.

Stanford has a $32 billion endowment to float those sports. None of the other schools in the ACC have anything close to that. So now the ACC is stuck in a position where they have added a team with unfair, competitive advantage in all the non-revenue sports from their endowment. In addition Stanford brings nothing to the table for adding football revenue, just a drain.

Which does absolutely zip for football recruiting.
