M. Bryant had to go

May 10, 2014, 12:23 PM

The median deal in the fifth round should be worth $2,348,800 over four years. The man has 2 kids with 2 different women and no job to support while playing college football. This a family decision where he will get over $300,000 in guaranteed money when he signs. No amount of money or increased draft stock is worth seeing your kids do without.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Stupid

May 10, 2014, 12:26 PM

Trading a chance to make 1st or 2nd round money for 4th or 5th round money makes no sense. I hope you guys have someone else running your finances. Short of his kids starving, which I doubt they are, staying a year probably increases his guaranteed money and his chance to sign a second contract, which is where the big money is made.

Maybe he didn't think he would be a 1st or 2nd round

May 10, 2014, 12:28 PM

pick next year.

Playing another year in college doesn't automatically increase your stock. You have to, you know...get better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The knock on him isn't talent or game ability

May 10, 2014, 12:30 PM

It's being a one hit wonder.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And lack of route-running skills, and drops

May 10, 2014, 12:42 PM

He wasn't going to start running pro-style routes in Clemson's offense, that's for sure.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, WRs definitely can't get into the first round coming from Clemson...***

May 10, 2014, 12:44 PM

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You really whacked that strawman with authority!***

May 10, 2014, 12:45 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No players have ever developed hands or route running

May 10, 2014, 12:50 PM

In college football. Bryant was better last year than he was his first 2 years. In fact, he has been better each year. Why would that stop?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't ask me...ask him. He decided now was the time.

May 10, 2014, 12:51 PM

If he thought with any level of certainty he would get 1st-round money next year, he probably would have stayed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The main knock on Sammy would be his lack

May 10, 2014, 12:50 PM [ in reply to Yeah, WRs definitely can't get into the first round coming from Clemson...*** ]

of route-running experience. But his one-in-a-million athletic abilities make up for it. Bryant doesn't have those abilities, and wasn't suddenly going to grow them next year in Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

873 yards and 7 td's with 47 receptions

May 10, 2014, 12:30 PM [ in reply to Maybe he didn't think he would be a 1st or 2nd round ]

You've got to think he at least goes for 1000+ yards and 10+ Td's being the primary receiver and main red zone target.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So you know better than him what his peak is?***

May 10, 2014, 12:35 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would assume a player that got somewhat better

May 10, 2014, 12:36 PM

this season would continue to get somewhat better next season. I could understand if he was going to have to live in Columbia for another year, so I understand your Coot prospective, you get out of that place ASAP, but Bryant made a mistake, it's pretty obvious.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have a suspicion you don't know him or his circumstances

May 10, 2014, 12:39 PM

It would be awfully convenient for you, as a Clemson fan, if he came back for his senior season. But he's not making decisions based on you and your football enjoyment.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

When has anyone ever made it about that...

May 10, 2014, 12:42 PM

It's about bettering himself and his position. Quit trying to change the debate to fit your perspective.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

False...everything he presented related to the debate...

May 10, 2014, 12:51 PM

then you put your fowl spin on it...as you love to do. Trying to make him look selfish...

Don't know if you've taken a peak at our WR depth chart lately, but it's not exactly a top concern for Clemson fans.

But please, keep doing what you do. It's obviously more enjoyable for you to be here discussing our players than to be on your board discussing your #1 draft pick.

That says something, no?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is my board.

May 10, 2014, 12:53 PM

Clemson's not my team, but this is "my board". I can't stand FGF or the people who post on it. Nor am I some kind of Jadeveon Clowney fan. I couldn't care less where he was drafted.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Glad we agree then...you enjoy it here better.

May 10, 2014, 12:59 PM

That was exactly my point.

But "your board" this is not, nor will it ever be. You still play devil's advocate and stir the pot.

There are others that do it to that profess to be Clemson fans, or even are Clemson "fans." So, in your defense, at least you are forthcoming about it.

Nevertheless, you still took the discussion off topic to promote your own agenda. And I called you out on it. Take it or leave it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What is my agenda, exactly?***

May 10, 2014, 1:02 PM [ in reply to False...everything he presented related to the debate... ]

He, first, said he understood my "coot perspective" on this, and then I pointed to his "tiger perspective" on it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You hanging with Vic and Kelsey today?

May 10, 2014, 12:54 PM [ in reply to drewtiger went ad hominen first, I simply followed suit.*** ]

Happy they made it out of USC even if they cost themselves a bunch of money.

Who?***

May 10, 2014, 12:54 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh, I see those are USC players. Or former USC players.

May 10, 2014, 12:55 PM

I don't know what you're asking really, but I really don't know anything about those guys. I think they got arrested in NYC recently.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You know, your boys who are hanging out

May 10, 2014, 12:56 PM [ in reply to Who?*** ]

Hoping someone drafts them today. Like I said though, I understand why they left early with no shot of being in the top 4 rounds.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Like I said, I'm in favor of any junior leaving

May 10, 2014, 12:57 PM

Re: Stupid

May 10, 2014, 12:32 PM [ in reply to Stupid ]

that first or 2nd round pick is provided he doesnt get hurt , he has greater production, and he is better than his competition. Also, i did mistype the avg signing bonus should have $200,000 not $300,000

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Provided he doesn't get hurt?

May 10, 2014, 12:35 PM

Should all potentially draftable juniors leave early. I can think of several junior Tigers with at least 7th round draft grades this year that are coming back. They should have just taken the 7th round money because they might get hurt next year?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would be in favor of just about any junior leaving early

May 10, 2014, 12:45 PM

If they feel they have what it takes to play professional football.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are these things called contraceptives...

May 10, 2014, 12:26 PM

And also common sense. I'm not bashing Bryant, but am I the only one who has a hard time with this line that keeps getting thrown out?

All that said, I'll never fault a man for taking care of his children, but in won't show a kid pity for having 2 children by 2 women. He made that decision too..:

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe he should've tried getting married...***

NFL contracts are not guaranteed. Sign on bonus is,

May 10, 2014, 12:27 PM

but not the contract. Can't imagine you get much of a sign on in the 4th round and beyond... IF he is drafted. Wish him the best, but don't agree with you here.

I guess the old saying stands true. You can't really know what he is going through without being in his shoes. That is still not bad money compared to what, say a teacher is going to start at with his or her contract.
