After today, I feel much better. I'm a guy. I'm also a math major. So, when there is a problem I want to solve it. High BP is an effect. I want to know the cause. Not knowing was the hardest thing for me.
I don't know yet, but we're getting closer.
Went to cardiologist this morning. Had an echocardiogram. Will know the results of it and stress test in a week or two.
Went to primary care physician this afternoon. BP was 150/90. High, but a lot lower than it has been. With my A-Fib in addition to a pacemaker and blood thinner I'm on two BP medicines. Dosage of 1 was doubled yesterday. Dosage of the other was doubled today.
Going back next week to give blood and urine samples. Both docs are optimistic that there is nothing major going on and it is controllable if not fixable.
Thanks for your concern and your prayers.

Praying for you. My Dad, Aunt, and a few cousins have AFIb. All had to change meds several times before they found combination that kept them out of AFIB. When they quit going into AFIB they extreme B.P. spikes stopped.

Good luck to you. AFIB and high BP is something I have, BP not so much but the afib is pretty constant with me. You will be fine.

My A-Fib is totally asymptomatic. I probably had it for 10 years before it was diagnosed from a routine EKG. I have persistent A-Fib. I don't go in and out of it, I have it all the time.
But, I have a great cardiologist and a fantastic primary care physician.
I have a few friends who are in the medical profession. They are all shocked when I tell them I have it. They say, "I've never heard of anybody with A-Fib who can walk that much with no problems."
I tell people, "If you're gonna have a heart problem, let it be A-Fib."

You must be in great shape. I am a family medicine doctor, and Atrial Fibrillation does take away some of your cardiac pump function. I tell patients it turns a V8 into a V6. Stay on your blood thinner and avoid the small chance of stroke.

I was shocked when a routine EKG found it...I had no symptoms. Started going to a cardiologist...was constantly staying in aFib. Be sure to ask your cardiologist about getting a cardio-version...where they shock your heart back into sync.
I was put on Xarelto and a beta blocker, then he did the cardio-version on me 14 months ago, I haven't been back in aFib since...I know this because last July, he implanted a tiny device that records my heart and sends it to his office.
He took me off Xarelto last October...started just taking one regular asperin a day...he did keep me on the beta blocker, but two months ago, took me off it since my BP was normal and my resting heart rate was sometimes a little too low...dipping into the 30's a couple times.
I had gotten up to about 30 lbs overweight over the past three years, so in January, I decided it was time to do something, Started going to the gym five days a week, about 20 minutes of walking/jogging, then 20-25 minutes on the machines. After 2 months, I hadn't lost but 3 or 4 pounds, so I started watching what I eat...cutting down on the sugar and carbs. I've now lost 20 lbs and feel better than I have in 3 or 4 years.
Bret, I hope your experience goes as well as mine has so far. I'm almost 73...my mom was diagnosed with aFib at about the same age as me, but her's was the kind that went in & out all the time...she lived to be 92 and probably would've made it to 100 if she hadn't refused to get a bad aortic valve replaced! Point is...it wasn't the aFib that killed her!

Shortly after being diagnosed I had 3 ablations over a period of a few months. All three put me in rhythm, but a week or two later I was back in A-Fib.
Had an ablation. Same thing. In rhythm for about a week, then back out.
I had it so long ago I was on warfarin. (Before Pradaxa was approved by FDA.) As soon as it was approved my doctor switched me to that.) For some reason my insurance (Medicare and supplement) no longer covers it, so my doc switched me to Eliquis.
It's actually been so long ago that I don't remember when I was first diagnosed.

in aFib! I know a couple people that had the ablation and it worked well. A good friend, who is now 70, was diagnosed with aFib about 20 years ago...went in and out all the time...finally did the ablation about 10 years ago and hasn't went in aFib since. Now he only takes an aspirin a day.
My mom had aFib for over 20 years, before she died at 92!

cause a lot of problems and make you feel bad. Not to mention a-fib and the medicine like beta-blockers and thinners. Maybe they can find a "mechanical" fix and get you off some of those medicines! Get well! Plenty of football to watch!

I spent 25 years in “Metabolic Health” so I know a bit about this…
Jun 1, 2023, 7:12 AM
|
|
How old are you?
1) What BP drugs/dosages are you on? 2) Are you Diabetic? 3) Are you overweight? 4) Do you smoke cigs regularly? 5) Are you a White Male (higher Renin levels so ACE inhibition or ARBs work better) …just some heads up. Internists are now moving towards using more BP drugs at lower doses (poly therapy) vs jacking up the dosage on fewer products.
