Remaining schedule likely outcome

5

Feb 21, 2023, 8:34 AM

Syracuse - W
NC State - L
Virginia - L
Notre Dame - toss up leaning W

So 2 - 2 or 1 - 3.

Not sure any of that gets us in.

If not we will find out what our administration thinks of our basketball future.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

For Clemson...

the ONLY PATH to the NCAAT is winning the ACC Tournament.

And we have never, ever won the ACC Tournament. Butt,

since by then, that will be the only thing that would keep Brad Brownell his job, he will probably torment us all, and pull it off somehow.

Sorry to have to put it in these terms, but I feel right now about Brownell and Clemson basketball, just exactly the way I felt about Tommy Bowden and Clemson football after that fateful Wake Forest loss in 2008. The feeling was then, and is now, that there is no hope going forward, unless a coaching change is made. Maybe it's time to pen a letter to the President as I and about 10,000 others did back in '08.

:(

I have to say, I would take winning the ACC Tournament

2

and Brad getting another 1-year extension in a heartbeat.

What would be closer to the Brad way would be to lose tomorrow night to Syracuse at home to completely eliminate any chance of an at-large, and with expectations completely shot, win out from there, grab a double bye, play our way into the title game (5 straight wins), then come up short in the end in a nailbiter. Finish 24-10, miss the NCAA, but "WOW!" what a gutsy finish and great momentum heading forward.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

0% chance Brad wins ACC Tournament ,

Have you noticed? Regardless of the sport, Clemson ALWAYS gets the opposing teams best shot? Beating Clemson just means more. I look at that as a compliment. There is a small handful of programs who are in this elite group. I hope that that never changes.

I think it's more a case..

of Clemson simply making bad teams look really good.

Don’t follow BB that closely but was amazed we lost to Loserville, that had won only 3 games. I did watch the BC game, where we didn’t score at all for half the game (20 minutes). Unsure if we bring out the best of the bottom dwellers or we just fold like a cheap tent when playing them? Something is amiss …

I agree in football. But imho in basketball we get it because they know we are beatable on any given day.

Or going 4-0 and winning the first game in the tournament. That will give us 2 more quad 1 wins with both being down the stretch.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That won't be enough...

3

Feb 21, 2023, 8:57 AM

to overcome the three Quad 4 losses.

Since the NCAA started using NET rankings for NCAA Tournament selection, NO TEAM with more than one Quad 4 loss has been selected.

There's a good chance SC ends up as a quad 3 loss (they just need to move from 242 to 240), so that would drop us down to having 2 quad 4 losses, and the NET ratings have only been used for 3 tourneys, so there's not some huge history there. I agree with baker5801, that would almost certainly get us in. Or even winning 3, and then 2 in the ACC tourney would probably get us in. Actually winning those games though, that's almost 0 chance

of late I have no idea what a likely outcome is with this team. FSU one night Louserville / UNC another night. Its Dr Jeckel and Carlos Hyde situation. Yeah I know he's football but you get the idea

When it comes to the Men's Basketball program over years I too have learned that trying to predict wins and losses and what I think should happen is down right and absolutely hopeless.I am at the point now where I am just taking one game at time.
