Azzzz kicked from the perspective of the embarrassing final score of 28 - 7.

Boo hoo … opposing fans are razzing us.

Those of us who watched the game and understand something about FB recognize that Clemson, despite the awful missed FG in first half and two awful Q3 collapses deep in the red zone, was down by 13 - 7 in early Q4 when we had first and goal at the 1 yard line. A rare fumble (hardly Mafah’s fault and certainly not CK2’s fault) via a helmet-on-ball hit is what hurt us the most; the long fumble return was the near mortal wound. Almost a freak convergence of lousy luck.

Even if we didn’t score on that possession, then a normal fumble recovery would have had Duke gaining possession deep in their territory. Another missed FG bu us, Duke gets possession at their 20. If they stone us and we can’t run it in, then they get possession again deep in their territory and the score is still 13 - 7 … a one score game.

Our defense had done a fine job stopping Duke overall to that point; morale would have still been high for our D. Very unlikely that Duke would have driven for 80+ yards against our still-at-that-stage high morale defense.

We get the ball again with score still 13 - 7 and all 3 time outs to drive the field for a TD.

Even if we don’t score the TD, then we lose the Duke game by a 13 - 7 score while having a chance to make the type of controlled drive (i.e., a still run heavy drive) with a chance to go ahead … and maybe win outright … the game.

(*). This loss was hardly an azzzz whipping.

Allow me to clarify my stance. Which by the way, I believe Dabo will take. Clemson is a dream school for any talented recruit to attend. With or without a National Championship team every year. The culture that Dabo has established is what gains the Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Tajh Boyd, Sammy Watkins, Nuk Hopkins, and Travis Etienne type of players who had offers from literally every other school in America. Now that it's easier to replace a player on the team, Dabo merely needs to increase the standard to remain on the team. In doing so, he pushes players to work harder than ever. He can do that and maintain his stance on the portal by merely having the ability to pull a scholarship and recruit from the portal. Will he do it? I cannot say for sure because his level of commitment to the players on our roster is unmatched by any other coach in the nation. We win and lose with class. One positive to take from his coaching style is that highly touted recruits will understand the concept of expectation and choose Clemson because they know that Clemson understands loyalty. I trust Dabo Swinney because there are only two other teams in the nation right now that can claim more than 1 National Title in the playoff era, and that's UGA and Alabama. The only other teams to win the Championship are Ohio State and LSU. Everyone else can beg, borrow, and steal from the portal but I think Dabo can get it done with the current roster if he has the right coaches on the staff.
