Reading the great reporting from Hood

It sounds like we really need to have a breakout year this year to get back to being the elite recruiting program that we have grown accustomed to being. It’s great all those guys are targets but I really want to see us be the leaders in the clubhouse in terms of landing them. “In the mix” doesn’t sound as good as “will surely be one of the finalists for my services.” Here’s hoping an injection to the offensive arm will be just what the doctor ordered for the team as a whole.

The unabated wild west of buying players...

with NIL money has dramatically changed the landscape of recruiting.

It's no longer about the best recruiters, player development, facilities, or the best coaches. Now, it's all about who's going to write the biggest check.

It has been my fear from the beginning of NIL…

…running a clean, academically honest, character-driven, high performing program is NOT what the NIL is about.

Why ANY program adheres to ANY of the NCAA’s (hey, that’s funny, I said “NCAA”) petty “regulations”, e.g., coaches can’t work with players in the off-season, is beyond belief, when the money-bags throw millions at players to play for their “elite” program.

I still cannot see a financially competitive path for Clemson to keep pace when Ryan Day is needing $16M per year to keep his roster intact.

We’re on a ”glide path” to a 3-star-dominated freshman roster that I think will be here in no more than 3 years, more likely, 2.

The number was $13 million. Here's the article (link)

Here we go again. How did that supposed money work our for Ryan Day? Being paranoid is not a good look. Winning football games is about execution not $$$.

I read a few days ago about the plight of our armed services. Seems they're having trouble recruiting. As a result the three major branches have been dishing out some hefty bonuses in hopes of attracting and keeping folks. Not so foe the Marine Corps. According to one of their Asst Commandants, "being a Marine" is the bonus for joining. Though I don't think bits apples to apples, I think Dabo has attempted to do something similar with the football program. Let's not forget Dabo has often mot gone after highly talented players when such Ayer seemed not to have suited the system and culture he is trying to create.

We will definitely lose outta on some folks we would otherwise want due to NIL, but we have seen Dabo wiling to make adjustments where needed to maintain or enhance our competitiveness. I thi k our worst likely case scenario is going to be pretty good.

Finishing 2nd (or anywhere else other than 1st) in

recruiting battles is much worse than always being a bridesmaid and never a bride. At least bridesmaids may occasionally get to go on dates. Guys we lost out on in recruiting battles may one day come back to bash our brains in on our own gridiron. Finishing 2nd (or lower) for high profile recruits was a staple of the Tommy Bowden era.

Kids are kids and change their mind about things every day. We had a Top 10 recruiting year this year and there is no reason to believe that will not continue.

And if we do regress out of the elite teams who cares??

I love winning but good lord the chatter, anxiety that comes with it is getting old.

No one here knew in 2013 we were about to go to 4 NCG and win 2. If we have lost all the playoff games we would still be right where we are today.

Watson Lawrence Wilkins etn big dex are gone.

ThTs ga, la, NC and mass. Can we still recruit the schools of which we recruited before? Is there a "no Dabo" on the school projector at Gainesville high, Archer high, Suffield academy and wake forest high?

Glad ur the fortune teller of what kids are gonna do. Money, to the one that have been raised good, isn't going to matter as much as yall think. We all don't think the same, even when it come to money

Dabo does a great job

but there are a lot of teams that can pay a lot more than Clemson would ever be able to pay

it has changed everything

and the portal also hasn't helped because they can steal players

NCAA doesn't do anything and even Saban (who is also one of big NIL teams) has said it is out of control
