This may be the best health news I've had in many years.

1. I'm down from the 278 of many years ago to a slim, slender chic 229.
2. I've had serious BP/HR issues for several weeks culminating unto a BP of 58/39 w/ HR of 87 Sun eve.
3. Doogie Houser, aka my 35 y/o cardiologist had ordered me to discontinue the HR regulating meds 50 mg/da Metropolol to remedy low BP.
4. It got worse and Doogie was stumped. You don't see that look a a older doctor's face often.
5. He is going to review my previous cardio records (aka consulting with doctor who did the roto rooter and stint/stent in '19.
6. He suggest a tight aortic valve might need 'fixing.' My word, not his.
7. I told him I thought open heart was not an option for the damage to my heart. I knew the doctor he's consulting is a cardio surgeon and the very one that told me they could do things more invasive if needed back in '19.
8. Doogie says they can do a valve job without removing the head. Though the groin artery. That's good news for me. I really don't want to be split open but after knowing how better I was and the distance from 71 y/r old to the finish line really motivates me to be happy about that possibility.
9. I do a sonogram Dec 21, follow up Jan 3 and maybe I will be back in fighting shape around ~215 lbs by then. Doogie is as dedicated, straight up and concerned with me as a patient as any doctor I've ever seen.
10. I highly recommend heart patients ask for Dr Houser.

I got it figured this way, if I lay down at night and wake up in the morning, like I've done my whole life, I'll be happy.
If I lay down and don't wake up in the morning, I'll be more happy. Me and God gots a understanding. I'm going whether or not I want to. I'm fighting to stay as long as there's any fight left in me.
It's a win/win cause they ain't no way to lose.

The best I ever did at OHS was six weeks to jogging & 2 months to sheetrock work. 32 y/o
The OHS at 50 was a couple weeks longer, maybe because I drove too soon and the sternum didn't heal for the movement involved in driving. IDK for sure but the second OHS was a beast.
My guess is the next, if I live, will take 3+ months of real, true restrictions. IDK really but it's going to be the kraken.

I'm no doctor, but I'd surmise that any heart surgery you can do

without having to remove your head would be quite preferable to head removal.

I'm delighted to have this valve job without removing my head.

I've done a few in my day but usually shaved the heads to ensure a quality plane to mate with the block. Unfortunately, after shaving a head a couple of times the mating angle changes and getting the head and intake to seat together without leaking water into the crankcase can be quite a challenge and should be left to professional familiar with small blocks such as mine.
Never the less, a leaky valve will reduce power significantly and require more fuel to reach max RPM. Do it or die on the drag strip.
I know, I've been the last one to finish more than once.

I'm about a dime under obese right now but I can lose down to, my goal is 200 flat. That's about 15 lbs more than dictated by the 'medical professional who have no muscle mass other than jacking their...mouths.
I'm 5-10 and a full 1/2" tall.

Which is still a little heavy for me, my ideal weight is around 185. But I’ve weighed as much as 250 in the past and 150 during my 20s. Great job losing the weight.

When I'm muscling around exercising my body probably won't go below 195 without an unbearable diet.

Going in through the groin is the way to go for sure.

As we've discussed, I was opened up like a sardine can in 2017, and had a new bovine tissue aortic valve installed. I will always have a nice big scar to remind me. The recovery was somewhat painful and long. When this valve wears out, they will go in through the groin (or maybe even arm by then?} and replace it with a mechanical one. The groin method is not risk free, but obviously there's less to go wrong and recovery is a piece of cake, comparatively.
Anyway, 58/39 is scary low. It's a wonder you could stand up. Good luck on the echo, and whatever comes next! Know you will be in my prayers. Keep us posted.

The collapse the lungs and fill them with antibiotics and rinse them after the lungs are reinflated. I was conscience a couple times during those rinse and vacuum jobs. They really try to get the stuff cleared but it seems to always turn out with the patent coughing that stuff up for a week or two.
I know what you went through. Coughing with a broken sternum is like tapping on a broken arm with the handle of a long screwdriver. No cast on the arm, just staples holding the bone together. You think it's never going to end.
I appreciated the prayer, thank you. I need it more than everyone else put together.
