Tiger historians...

Jan 12, 2016, 7:10 PM

Did Jim Phillips ( the voice of the tigers) ever pick publicly for Clemson to lose a game? However, if I were a play by play announcer, I don't think I could bring myself to say publicly the Tigers was going to lose a game even if I know for a fact they didn't have a chance.

Some body with some pull ($$$$) needs to bend D Rad's ear and get rid of this idiot. He's always been marginally skilled at best and now, to publicly choose against Clemson is stupid! We can't buy loyalty among the "free press" but this guy is paid as a Clemson homer and he should be just that! Fire him now!

I just remember Jim Philips calling the play by play

a very evenhanded guy back in the days of the pre expansion ACC when announcers didn't look to call too much attention to themselves. You knew he supported Clemson but he didn't let any bias get in the way of calling a fair game.

Absolutely not.......

Please don't tell me Doofus Munson picked against Clemson.

It was a different world back then

The ACC in 77 for example was 8 schools in a more rural area where everyone knew everyone else and you didn't throw your opinions around in public as an announcer. Jim Phillips drove to each university and knew the coaches personally and they knew they would get a fair shake from him when he called a game and that he kept his opinions to himself or only revealed them to close friends off the record if then. There was a lot more decorum then.

He rightly considered himself a reporter
