I guess Ol' Dabo hit the nail on the head** TigerNet will never be satisfied ???? If we win them all, there will be fussin' that we didn't win by enough points ?? The man just told you why we are so lucky to have him as coach and why we are ""REALLY LUCKY"" to be Clemson Fans*** They win a lot ( not all,all the time) - they graduate players ( lots & lots of players ) - they make everyone that is a true Clemson Tiger Fan,proud and he does it the right way.

We all hurt for the Tigers after a loss, but will be pulling hard for em',next time they take the field. 2023 and another ***FIVE GOALS*** to shoot for.GO TIGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, if 3-loss seasons are the new bar like the last 2 years then we don't really need to change much. If trying to make the playoffs on a consistent basis is still the bar then I don't think there is much disagreement that some changes need to be made.

Just about everyone here loves Clemson football; we just want what's best for it and to see us reach our full potential each year. Maybe that isn't always a championship or a playoff but just perform to our best standards and then if we fall short, work like heck to address it and not make excuses for it.

I could be wrong, but it looks look we were a better team from 2015 to 2020, and we haven't looked good in 21 or 22, especially when playing teams away from the ACC.

We beat NC State and UNC

Jan 1, 2023, 10:11 AM

And pulled one out against a banged up Wake Forest team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You just going to ignore the win @FSU?…

Jan 1, 2023, 2:44 PM

That’s the best win now…they may finish top 10 or close to it.
It’s obvious many here were not around for ‘3-8 in 1998’ or many other seasons in Clemson FB history.
Sure, we all want to get back to the playoff. Not sure why everyone thinks it’s so easy though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You just going to ignore the win @FSU?…

Jan 1, 2023, 3:57 PM

The FSU we played is not the FSU of today. They would beat us pretty badly if they played again

Re: TNET: Swinney responds to question about if his Clemson program is slipping

Jan 1, 2023, 10:17 AM

We’re getting worse and Dabo refuses to admit it. My only hope is that he’s aware of the problems that he’s created and is going to fix them. If he’s just delusional, then competing for a national title is over for us. Those 4 teams last night would have beaten us by 20+

We aren’t close to them. We aren’t a top 10 team. And I don’t think our recruiting class got us any better.

Lawd forbid someone says something logical, observational, and/or objective and its off to the New Spring burning stake.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

His answer should have been three words: “Yep. I’m Sorry.”

Jan 1, 2023, 10:31 AM

But he can’t admit it; so instead we get this drivel: “I can't really -- I don't really know what to say to them.”

Come on Dabo! How about saying something like, “Yes. We have slipped the past few years from what our standards are. But I am going to use every means necessary to get the BEST PLAYERS to Clemson, by helping them sign the most lucrative individual NIL deals, both locally and nationally, targeting and recruiting the best Transfer Portal players, recruiting and developing the best OL recruits, returning Clemson to WRU status, having a dedicated coach each for the secondary AND for special teams (both glaring weaknesses for years now), evaluating EVERY staff position, from coordinators to strength and conditioning, in the offseason, and offering the most competitive benefits (as much as NCAA allows anyway) to all of our players to retain them and keep them from leaving.”

After seeing the OL play of the 4 teams in the two playoff games, and literally every other team’s special teams unit that we played this year (except for Potter, save his Orange Bowl performance, of course), it’s clear Clemson is nowhere near to being competitive in these areas. They’ve been huge problems for YEARS. Better fix it Dabo! We don’t want excuses.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: His answer should have been three words: “Yep. I’m Sorry.”

Jan 1, 2023, 11:05 AM

Not to mention skill position players. We watched wrs and RBs making plays all over the place yesterday. We don’t have any players like that. Shipley is the king of the almost broke that one and our wrs seem to covered by everyone. Anyone saying we aren’t skipping is part of the problem. We might not have the resources of other schools but somehow we found the money to make our coach the second highest paid coach in college. If that’s how you’re being paid then coach like your the second best coach in college!! Coaching and recruiting is why we are slipping. That’s on Dabo not his resources.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: His answer should have been three words: “Yep. I’m Sorry.”

Jan 1, 2023, 1:12 PM

I have no issues with our RB room. Shipley is a beast and almost never loses ground or falls backwards. WR recruiting or at least production at the position has fallen off recently, maybe due to DJU, so I’m reserving judgment until next year. I think CK brings so much more to the table. But our OL has to get better to give him time to throw.

Get Real Folks

Jan 1, 2023, 10:57 AM

Get a grip on reality. Clemson is a special, special place. But it does not, and never will, have the resources of Ohio State, Oklahoma, TA&M, Texas, Alabama, etc.

Dabo’s plan is, and always will be, to be incredibly consistent program. And to be among the top 10 teams in the Nation. If we do that, there’s always a chance we will be in the playoffs. We will not be there every year - that’s not realistic. Even Bama, with the top recruiting class and a few portal players, doesn’t make it some years.

I do hope he reconsiders some of the hires he made, but if he doesn’t, it means he believes in them and thinks they can do the job. Time will tell. I’m with him on the portal - constant use of it to “upgrade” will just make the players you recruited leave. That may build a fly by night team that can win it all one year, but it is no way to build a program. I like that we do it different and hopefully it will pay dividends in the long term.

In other words, get over yourselves. Enjoy what is the best period in Clemson football EVER. More consistent and higher highs than ever before, and relatively few lows (that loss to the Coots qualifies as a low for sure).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Get Real Folks

Jan 1, 2023, 11:57 AM

I agree with your points, but I especially agree with your first point

I don’t want Clemson to be a school like A&M where it sells out to win in football (and manage to fail miserably) or an Alabama/Ohio St where the expectation to win is so high that people act out when it doesn’t happen.

I get the frustration of pulling for this team this season and last season. Falling off sucks and seeing this team not fulfill its potential is frustrating, but it ain’t the end of the world. Clemson’s done it before, and who’s to say they won’t do it again. It might be the path of most resistance, but it’s out of our control.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s both comical & really pitiful how

Jan 1, 2023, 11:11 AM

All those losers come on here (and all other team boards) to trash a coach or a program that is at the upper echelon of success over the past 10 years! Clemson is truly in a class with only the likes of Bama, OSU, UGA & OU in terms of wins, championships, recruiting rankings, etc. And, of all those teams Clemson is number 1 in academic success from its football players!
What these losers don’t know, as well, is that Clemson has an incredibly strong NIL program with an Institute and a brand new facility designed for maximizing NIL contracts, marketing & networking for individual players! On top of that, everyone knows that Clemson has the PAW program which is the national leader in player development, financial & career networking and will help many players link into NIL deals while in college and careers long after their football deals. These losers have No Idea how many players already have great NIL deals & how many are currently in the works…yes, once again, Clemson is in the top echelon of this category as well!
Haters gonna always hate…but these people who troll like they do on these boards are not just haters, they are total losers!

Jan 1, 2023, 11:17 AM

“Then on top of that, we had 90 guys make a 3.0 this semester. 90. That's a school record. We had 17 guys make a 4.0 or better. For some people, it's all about the scoreboard; for our program, it's about really developing them in all areas. We've been able to do that consistently. Nobody has been more consistent than us.”

There’s the issue…He is paid $11m a year to win football games…period…unfortunately it’s hard reality to see but it’s true. It’s understood that the academics are part of the process but that’s not a point to be diverting to when you are asked to explain mediocre performance. No other coach in the country brags on the academic results from their players.

He’s not a tutor and nor is he an $11m a year youth pastor…that philosophy is dead and buried in todays college football landscape. Money means more to these kids than the word of god.

Re: TNET: Swinney responds to question about if his Clemson program is slipping

Jan 1, 2023, 12:22 PM

I disagree. He isn’t just paid 11 mill to win football games. He is paid 11 mill to make sure these kids are prepared for life after football if they even make it to the next level. Football doesn’t last forever. Last time I looked in the NFL, I haven’t seen any 45-60 year old players on the field playing. Not to mention that these players from the likes of Bama , Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, etc aren’t prepared for life after football. How many times have we read where those players are arrested, locked up, or serving time in jail, which is a black eye on their program !! Dabo gets paid 11 mill to win in football, in which he has !! He gets paid 11 mill to graduate his players, in which he has !! He gets paid 11 mill to send players to the next level, which he has !! He gets paid to make sure his players are prepared for life after football, which he has !! There are a ##ll of a lot of football programs that would give anything to have the success that Dabo has brought to Clemson since being our Head Coach. Not only because of winning, but because of life after football for their players.

Re: TNET: Swinney responds to question about if his Clemson program is slipping

Jan 1, 2023, 12:48 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Swinney responds to question about if his Clemson program is slipping ]

Before NIL, I firmly believed that Dabo had an edge recruiting the "good guys" and pitching recruits' parents that their sons would be well coached, developed, disciplined, and safe. We have had very few off-the-field issues.

I'm proud we have 90 players making a 3.0, that's better then I ever did at ol Clemson. I'm proud Dabo treats his players like sons (but don't give them trick plays in the first half please), and I'm proud we produce great people outside of a 3-4 year average NFL career (if they even make it, less than 2% from college to the show).

BUT. And this is a big BUT. In this new era, NIL and money is everywhere and rules are absent.

Point is...if we want to continue to produce good men and leaders in the community, we are going to need to leverage the same resources afforded to our opponents.

While it might sound very shallow, winning pays the bills. And paying the bills allows Clemson to keep operating and offering the way we want to.

Yes, from being one of the best teams in CFB history in 2018 to now the program is slipping. That is true. Maybe we can call it a pull back and consolidation for another strong move up, though. I believe Dabo and crew can and will right the ship.

Re: The Priorities Are Set Differently ---

Having good grades and having the plyers graduate is great...but it is more of a personal thing with them and their family bloodlines.

Having the football team honestly handle themselves with 100% common sense effort in winning the games is for everyone that loves Clemson Football.

The head scratching begins when we have unbelievable talent and we are winning in these confusing lethargic ways. A win is a win but it won't quite get us where we need to be to get that Natty Trophy.

Even Stetson Bennett said the other day that at Georgia.. the mentality there is win the championship and not just have a decent year the next year. He said they want to win as many as they can since they got a chance to get one previously. Clemson used to think that way.

We already had for the longest time....the media bashing the ACC....now you got the NIL coming strongly into play....the portal is showing true colors of some recruits...and also you have Deion Sanders sharpening his old Seminole spear so he can poach other program's players to come to Colorado.

Clemson right now is just doing what it can to stay afloat and not be an after thought for future recruiting. I hope it will be enough to keep getting a significant amount of Natties

Jan 2, 2023, 12:19 PM

2 seasons that were painful to watch....
A head-coach stepping up his arrogance for all to see, after securing 100+ million dollar contract.
A Oline that is still subpar.
A RB coach that can't recruit.
A WR coach that can't coach WR's.
A HC that catches feelings for his really, really bad QB....and then takes it out on fans if dude had a decent performance.
An OC that's clearly out matched against superior opposition.

This is college football. Losses are one thing. Embarrassment is another. Not saying fans won't watch on TV....but the Orange Bowl attendance was roughly 70% UT fans....that's telling.
