I 100% agree with him as well.

It's a heavy fine in pro sports. You have to watch your friendly chatter that has nothing to do with recruiting. Unless college adapts a very strong stance on tampering; this is going to ruin a great sport.

It's already not equitable when a Wake Forrest or even a Clemson has to compete with the big budgets of a Texas, Ohio State, Michigan or Oregon!
But, throw in the ability to basically poach those teams with a lower athletic budgets players who they likely developed - and it's pure trash now.

Where is the sport? Hire coaches who can identify players that fit their system and develop them. Instead; because of the amount of money and pressure these coaches are under the need to win today is ever present.

So, although you wouldn't like it done to you, you do it to another coach.

Anyone old enough to remember newspaper bins? You literally put in a quarter and "MOST" people at the time had enough integrity to only take the 1 they paid for. An unwritten rule if you will. A gentleman's agreement. That's a huge part of what's missing in all this. Integrity!

Here is how to stop tampering. Period.

Here is the way to stop tampering. Make the penalty for doing it so severe that no school would dare to do it.

(*). Require a ‘conduct contract’ in which the university on the ‘receiving’ end of a portal player that require the ‘receiving university’ to attest that neither the university, nor someone associated with the university, nor a third party (whether that be a parent, friend, coach, teacher, or acquaintance of the player or of the players family) had communicated in any way with the portal player PRIOR to that player having entered the portal?

The ‘signed document’ would contain an agreement that any university caught lying would (1) forfeit all of its games, (2) be ineligible for any post season game, (3) the ‘tampered player’ would be (a) ineligible to play for the team, (b) be kept on full scholarship, counting against the allowable scholarship total for the team, (c) receive the full cash value of the scholarship if he leaves the university for any reason, (4) the tampered player would not lose any eligibility, regardless of whether he missed the entire playing season, and would have that season of eligibility restored if he moved to another school, and (5) all NIL moneys that were associated with the tampered player and the tampering university would be owed in its entirety immediately upon the tampered player leaving the university.

Why would this work? Easy. Kids get unhappy with their team / coaches from time to time. The ‘tampering’ university runs the risk that an unhappy kid would spill the beans about how hey were ‘illegally’ contacted by the ‘tampering university.’ It would take only one kid to ruin a full season of the tampering university. No school would take the risk of tampering, given the risk vs reward imbalance.
