Unfortunately, as it stands today Riley is one of the worst misappropriations of program funds in Clemson history. The past few years have really honed my pessimism, so I think the issues are worse than they seem. Dabo didn't hire Riley because he was simply the best young OC out there, he got him because he genuinely believed he could help in specific, defined ways that CLEARLY didn't pan out.

Riley has this year to impress before I start calling for his head, and Grisham too for that matter. Injuries have really hurt the receiver room, but that does not exonerate him for one of the worst positional performance drop offs I have ever seen. About ready for Dabo to address WR coach the way he did OL.

You're an idiot. Dude had dominated at every school he'd ever been in. He comes into a team with a completely depleted offense: a mediocre QB, no star wide receiver, and one of the worst offensive lines in football. He doesn't even get a single year of recruits. Still, our offense is a little improved. But because he didn't turn bad players into a top 10 offense in year 1, you call him "one of the worst misappropriations of program funds in Clemson history?" Again, you're a moron.

People don't realize just how depleted our offense was (I won't get into the fiasco of our head coach calling plays). Cade was seen to have talent in high school, but had not been developed at all, both because our head coach gave him 0 playing time and because the previous QB coach was a cancer who made every QB he coached worse. We were pleasantly surprised by Williams and Brown, but no receiver on our roster would have cracked the three deep of the 2018 and 2019 offenses. The offensive line was in the bottom 5 in the country in 2020 and 2021. And while I like Mafah, neither he nor Shipley are close to an Etienne. You have to rebuild when you let your offense get into the state it was in. And he's already signed two star receivers. You're a moron.

Garrett Riley can't execute ball security for the players on the field. He can coach it, but ultimately, it's up to the player to execute their training. I know for a fact that they teach and run ball security drills. Ball security alone sunk the season last year and it was Cade Klubnik, Will Shipley, and Phil Mafah who were at fault on the majority of the turnovers. Also, you cannot tell what type of investment a coach is until they've been in the program system for at least three full seasons. To say that it didn't pan out this early is fairly premature. Let's see season two and find out where the program is. If we are hoisting a trophy at the end of the season, then I'd say it panned out quite well. I do believe that Clemson will take a step forward this season and be selected into the playoff bracket. With a defense such as the one Clemson is bringing forward this season, I'd say that Cade and crew will have plenty of opportunities to score as the defense will do their job to keep them on the field. GO TIGERS!

I agree with all of that. Dabo simply told it like it is. The fact that we came back and gutted out a fairly successful season (after the way we started) says a lot about the determination of the players and coaches.
I'm looking forward to a 11-12 win season, and hopefully making the CFP.
Go Tigers!!! Start off strong, and finish stronger.

I take it with a grain of salt bc most coaches all say the same thing. I do agree we have the pieces to be a playoff team. We just have to execute and Cade needs to be better than last year. I didn’t disagree with anything he said. Last year I think him and the team went a little overboard with the hype. This year he had a much more reasonable take.

Regardless, you hate Dabo and Clemson football, for some reason, and I’m gonna call you out every time.

I don't put any of our struggles on Riley. I think he's one of the best young minds in the sport.

I think our struggles, offensively, have everything to do with our personnel and position coaches.

We lacked an elite playmaker at WR. We lacked a homerun hitting RB. We had a talented, but inconsistent TE. We had a below average OL. And we have a head case at QB that made countless mental mistakes.

On top of that, we had very inexperienced positional coaches.

The Matt Luke hire was big and we return a lot of production on offense + added some dynamic freshman WRs. But I fear we still have so much more left to do before this offense is dominant again like it used to be.

When I see the personnel on this offense, I don't see many future NFL players. The talent just isn't what it used to be.

We have young, inexperienced coaches on staff. This is Spiller, Grisham, and Richardson's first ever college coaching job. We are still recruiting well enough, so I'm assuming we are missing on evaluations and/or development. That makes sense with first time coaches on staff.

If the offense doesn't improve, then I would blame the inexperienced coaches. I wouldn't blame the guy that has experience as an OC, that coached in a national title game, and has had top 15 offenses in every year until he arrived at Clemson.

Agreed there isn't much to work with , however A. Williams , Tyler Brown , A Randall ( huge upside ) ,
Wesco and Moore all have NFL potential.

We have a few capable bodies on the O line that Luke could possibly
coach up to NFL potential.

RB is thin after Mafah ( with NFL potential.)

Stool could give the NFL a run if ( big if ) he adds much needed weight.

Summary ( IMO ) Grisham has zero wiggle room.

Richardson is probably safe with the successful contribution from Bentancur
Even more so if Henry surprises.

Spiller is safe until the arrival and successful development of Davidson.

I hope Jay Haynes emerges as the #2 RB. He adds a speed/explosiveness element that could be big for the offense this year.

Same of y’all don’t understand a thing about leadership. In the public eye, Dabo has to be positive, even if it seems over the top to the public.

No one would want to be working here as a coach if he publicly tore them apart. Leaders lead, they spin the message and look for the positive in everything, even failure.

I am sure in closed doors Dabo lets them have it when warranted and lets them know when they need to step up.

I want our coach focusing on the positive and encouraging our guys along the way. Behind the scenes, he has to hold them accountable to results, and the changes he made this year show us he still does that.

Go tigers!!!

There are more than two choices here, aside from Dabo's over the top optimism and praise or the public bashing of the team.

There is a LOT of middle ground in there that you and others seem to ignore.

No one wants Dabo to bash his assistant coaches and players. At least I certainly don't.

I want a coach who is generally positive and optimistic, but also realistic about some of the challenges the team is facing. Part of the problem with Dabo's over the top predictions are that they create unrealistic expectations from fans who hang on his every word.

Remember when Dabo said during his rant to Tyler from Spartanburg that many fans' expectation exceeds their appreciation? Well, that's going to happen when Dabo says ridiculous things overhyping our players and team.

If anything, I would rather Dabo publicly be positive but also downplay how good we can be, while privately encouraging players and showering them with positive reinforcement. That seems to be a much better approach than saying that a backup QB will be in the NFL one day, or claiming that we have the best position group in the country, while privately bashing our players with "tough love." The former sets realistic expectations for fans while also giving players plenty of positive reinforcement, while the latter sets the stage for frustrated fans and players who don't feel cared for and supported.

Raising money is critically important for Clemson FB to be successful, and Dabo’s form of messaging has been tremendously effective.

Not didsimilar to politics; candidates couch their messages in ways that, let’s say, ‘shades’ the truth in order to optimize fund raising.

I suspect that many of the attentive ‘older-than-students’ Clemson fans had long ago figured this out.

I will say this, I miss that day of coaches "Poor mouthing" about their team. Lou Holtz was infamous for it and then would have a top 5 team. Danny did it, and early on, Dabo as well. If he ever wraps two-a- days and all buy says we stink, I'm booking tickets to at LEAST the ACC Title game. When he talks good about the O line especially, I get worried. Just my .02. That said, I REALLY hope Coach Luke makes the difference we need. Give Cade an actual pocket and reduce his stress a bit. He can play if he can slow down a bit, but the O line has been bad since the last National Title game and gotten worse annually imo. There is no excuse for that and it starts up front. Give them some protection, Cade can throw, WRs all of a sudden get less contested balls, RBs can eat... all works.

A better OLine certainly will help, but ..
