As a fan, Nothing about an alliance with the pac 12 excites me. Las Vegas is certainly not where I would want an annual championship game.

Of all the cons, going to Eugene, Seattle, even Palo Alto/Berkeley

Or down to desert are not one of them. I think those would be pretty cool trips. More so than games at Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana etc
I’m not saying it’s a good idea, but those are actually road games, Eugene and UW specifically, I’d like to see.

Nothing like a nice trip to a dumpster fire. Been there, and would prefer to watch Clemson on TV is they go there. From a National TV perspective, those games would be novelties, even Stanford. Nothing like Clemson vs. - Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, even FSU or Miami.
NO additional TV money in putting the PAC with the ACC. Almost a 'Who Cares' nationally.

If I were still healthy enough to be a traveling fan for the games, anywhere past Texass, I wouldn't be making any plan, or buying any tickets for, period....

How did the great “Alliance” work out between the Big 10, Pac 12 and the ACC to not poach one another’s teams for the PAC 12? The real USC and UCLA bolted to the Big 10.
It’s about self preservation at this point. Get out of the ACC at all costs.

That move should have been done the very second the ACC added an extra year of probation against Clemson after the NCAA ruling. The darling ACC felt that it was their duty to add more punishment to Clemson after the NCAA hit us with a two-year postseason ban (1982-83), reduced the number of scholarships from 30 to 20 for the 1983-84 seasons and included a live television ban for 1983-84. That is how our darling ACC dealt with one of it's first members in the ACC. There have been other bull chit incidents against Clemson since then by our conference AX men!!!

Amen Brother!
It was Chapel Hill behind that chit, and they skated when they got caught for much worse. They hated little Clemson beating UNC when they had a top 10 football and basketball teams! We were also coming off some great basketball years then too.
Staying in the ACC is not worth $50 Million per year to Clemson. The ACC never does anything to help Clemson other than take half our money when we go to Bowl Games or win a championship.
We need to go to the SEC if some drastic improvement does not occur to the ACC. The last thing we need is to get stuck in a second rate conference....

So how exactly does this work if the ACC and PAC12

conference champs meet in Las Vegas? I don't know about the future but in the past if Clemson is the ACC Champ we will have played 13 games and our next game (14th game) is usually a playoff game. Why in the heck would we want to go out to Vegas, risk injury or our position in the playoffs for a meaningless game with the PAC12?

I take it as though there would not be an ACC championship game. You would play the season and the division winner would go to vegas.

This is absolutely the DUMBEST thing that I have seen yet. This is Jim Phillips answer? It is obvious he is grasping at straws. Time to move on to the SEC or become an afterthought in sports.

Notre Dame uses the ACC only when it fits their personal agenda, and that is their bank account. Then that little leprechaun runs jumping up and down laughing at the ACC bc they just suckered the ACC yet again, and bragging about how easy it was to do!!!

I don't think this would be good for Clemson. Before this happens they would have to work out how the CFP would work. If ND is included would improve it and add star power, but hope our administration is working hard to do what is best for Clemson.

I hope the powers that be are consulting Dabo. Dabo has the leverage in this league that Saban enjoys in the SEC. He will make it clear Clemson won't be left behind or settle for leftovers. Not now , not ever

I guess the phrase “loose alliance” is a lawyerly term they just invented to try and keep the GOR intact and hope it prevents Clemson, FSU and Miami from bolting.

The most impotent, ACC-worthy response ever. Neither here nor there. The SEC and BIG10 hit the gas hard and speed away from the starting line, and our response is to find someone else to push our cars with.

Too many what ifs in the whole situation and until the what if the BIG10 and or SEC will add more teams is known, nobody knows anything. The confusing thing with this story if why the ACC prefers to align with the PAC12 rather than the BIG12. Another what if is whether ESPN had conversations with the ACC about the TV market in the West and hopefully if that is the case it means we are favored over the BIG12.

The only way to save the ACC is to bring in ND. Then add a few more other schools. With ND you could renegotiate a new TV deal. Without ND the ACC will fade away. IMO

Since it hasn't been mentioned I will. What the PAC? and the west coast teams represent is completely antithetical and not representative of the culture Dabo has built and continues to build at Clemson. Putting football aside for a moment it's easy to imagine how " off the field issues " would hurt our brand and create too many distractions for a team that should focus mainly on football. Naturally we would continue our work in community endeavors but only those that should not be controversial.

I’m not a lawyer, but I would think Clemson could claim negligence on the part of the conference, which failed to keep us financially relevant as a way out of the GOR fiasco.

What if we just stayed in the ACC? Money isn't everything. Texas has been squandering $100M a year forever. Dabo built this juggernaut working at a cash disadvantage. Really, what do we need to stay elite that we can't afford? I don't see it.
Dabo isn't for sale and he's stocking the assistant coaching positions with Clemson guys. Some of them will leave but, honestly, good for them. That you HAVE to plan for anyway.
The ACC isn't going to get left out of championship contention as long as there is an elite team left. Nobody wants an asterisk on their trophy.

This idea is quite bad on many, many different levels. I can appreciate the fear in the ACC offices and wish no one loses a job...but this does NOTHING to offer better football matchups.
Clemson can do better...way better

What difference does it make for all of these teams to abandon their contracts and obligations? Screw the Irish. Invite some other viable contributors and move along. I understand the other markets are making a lot of dough, but they are spreading it thinner and thinner with their additions.

That is a waste of time, shortly there won't be a PAC 12, 10, 8 or any other number for the PAC to be loosely associated with. Hope they have other plans/ideas.

Huge Mistake...

...let's all hope this doesn't transpire - merging with the Pac12. Let's be honest, we either join the SEC or Big10, anything else will screw us moving forward. The Pac12 is the worst of the Power 5 conferences and they just lost their two marquee programs. All of the big names and contenders are and will be in the SEC/Big10, if we have any hope of continuing to compete for titles we HAVE to join one of those conferences. Period.

The writing is on the wall. I have loved Clemson in the ACC but "things change" over time and if you don't change with them you get left behind. This "PAC/ACC thing" is pathetic ! Good grief. The ACC possibly could survive if FSU and Miami could get their programs on track AND ND would fully join but that's a lotta ifs! And even still, likely wouldn't carry the BRAND power that it would need to survive functionally. Additionally if the BiG and SEC decide to say **** the NCAA I fear the remaining conferences and teams would become an afterthought in the grand scheme of CFB. It's a lot of unknowns and guessing at this point but there's a "feel" in the air that this is a moment in time that you don't wanna miss out on. I think the ACC and PAC are a sinking ship, monetarily. Spittoons used to be commonplace ....seen any lately? Things change Clemson. Get some attorneys and jump.

No need to kick them out! Follow the soccer model and do the divisions based on actual success on the field.
Promote the good teams, relegate the bad teams. It would be fun to watch.

This is completely stupid. If this is all the ACC can come up with, then I say we need to move on ASAP.

If the PAC whatever number, they are hear the C word a little. They will cancel their season and then maybe play a handful of games like before. They are not a good match for Clemson or the ACC in anyway.

How is this PAC-12 partnership different than the alliance we have (or had) with the Big 10?

These sorts of arrangements don’t seem to mean anything in reality.

Without USC and UCLA, the PAC12 is a nothing burger.
But maybe all non SEC and B12 teams should remain in the NCAA and require TV networks to pay to broadcast NCAA teams the same amount - the same amount as those other 2 snob conferences.

The partnership with the Pac 12 is a very limited opportunity for most. Road tripping to Nashville, Knoxville, Gainesville, Athens, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, even Oxford, MS is readily achievable and expensively affordable. Eugene not so much. Hopefully, Clemson's BOT and administration team is doing their due diligence much better than the nimrods who signed the negligent ACC GOR.
