Would agree in one respect…..I like the possession type receivers. Renfrow and J Leggett come to mind.

How do you really define GOAT? Not one of those guys would have been as good as they were- if not for the guy that lined up next to them.

There may be some discussion about who is the Clemson
Jul 19, 2021, 6:15 PM
|

"GOAT", but, near as I can remember, there only ever was ONE "Mr. Fumble", and his name was Ken Callicut.
He was a pretty darn good runner, but he forgot to bring the football along for the ride far too often.

"GOAT"?

I know we are still in the 'DARK time', but I don't know why in the world you're foolish enough to ask this ####### question.
All that really can happen is to start some arguments, some friendly and some not and make you guys look like a bunch of bored numbnutz.
The adult in charge needs to pay attention to the kids. I really thought, collectively, you'd never be so cootish.
Funny how wrong I Was. ??

Can’t overlook Christian Wilkins… his complete body of work is special and unmatched by anyone on that side of the ball during Dabo’s tenure.

Deshaun Watson-Offense Christian Wilkins-Defense
We have had so many great players, I decided to choose based on accomplishments. Deshaun led us to one CFP championship and was within seconds of winning two. Christian Wilkins was a team leader on both recent national championships.

If CJ was surrounded by weapons like Travis was his records wouldnt be touched. That's no knock on ETN but that #### Spiller was a different breed. He was too early for the times as was Woodrow Dantzler.. Could you imagine him running a spread offense. He would have dismantled records.

Agree 100 percent on spiller. For me he is the GOAT. Plus none of this era happens without signing him. He should be in the ring of honor now.

Woody was definitely before his time! Spiller & ETN are kinda tied. Spiller was spectacular but imagine if Travis touched the ball as much as Spiller. But also ETN was spectacular but imagine if Spiller had that offense. Both were great.

I think so too. Hard to argue b/c he was such a "Gamer"

He flourished in the spotlight in big games. I've never seen a Clemson QB play that well (consistently) in the spotlight. Those Bama defenses were some of the best in CF history and he was about the Only QB that put up 400-500 yards on them every time he played against them. If you had to win in a shootout DW4 is by far up to the challenge. Therefore the GOAT.
On an additional note.. how many times in the past had Clemson gotten right up to the precipice of the top of the mountain and choked and fell back down the hill? Time and time again we were close but no cigar. Until deshaun finally showed up and refused to be average and busted through. I also realize his supporting case was great but we've had great supporting casts in the past but needed that special player to just get the job done. Finally we got that with Deshaun Watson.
Far and away the GOAT of Clemson Football.

I have to go with DW4. I like TLaw but i never felt we had a LEADER who could put the game on his shoulder and win it (only time was 2019 osu). With Dashaun Watson you were always confident he could win it! DW4 has that it factor. He was the only QB that i trust could have 4-5 turn overs & still battle back to a win. I didn't trust that TLaw could do that. Also i think the ACC was much tougher when DW4 played. Way more ACC QBs & Defensive players in the nfl from DW4's years. I honestly can't name one really impressive player TLaw played against in the ACC. DW4 was more of the unquestionable leader & he barely lost 1 natty & turn around the next year & won another natty. The Alabama teams DW4 had to play against was much better than the 2018 Alabama team. Tlaw won one natty by a large margin but got whipped in 2 playoffs (1 being a natty). I got to go with DERRICK DESHAUN WATSON!
