One of my favorite bottom fish to eat. I feel that it is very similar to eating lobster when broiled or deep fried dipped in butter. Anyone else have the same experience?

trip 40 years ago. Triggerfish got no respect back then, they were considered a throwaway.
But then again, so was catfish, for a long time.

That's true! Fishing in my youth we all thought they were a trash fish. Boy were we wrong. Absolutely delicious!

You should try Lionfish. Absolutely fantastic firm flesh and also has that hint of shellfish. Only issue is they usually less than a pound, so high cleaning to meat ratio.
We speared hundreds of them in the Bahamas (they are invasive, so no guilt). They make great fish tacos, but also enjoyed sautéed in butter over rice.

10-4 on Lionfish. Excellent!
Triggers are firm fish and love them in a chowder because they don't breah up.

Shepherd are so good. They are really tuff fighting fish. I had one hooked. He to one hooked. It took me around my boat twice before getting in hooked. They have have some choppers that will put a hurting on your fingers if you are not careful. Spottail and sea trout are great cooked fresh. My Dad caught a 5 lb flounder that was so good. Caught a lot of whiting surf fishing. I miss those times with my Dad.
Does anyone like bluefish. I don’t they are too oily for me.

I’d give lionfish and grouper the nod over triggers, but hogfish over all of them. Triggers were easy spearing targets, got two with one shot once. But, they will bite you given half a chance so I always ran the stringer through the mouth if on scuba.

Also called Kumu

Problem is, that you pretty much have to eat it In Hawaii because the meat goes soft when they try to freeze it a ship it to the mainland

Triggerfish is great. One of the best. I’ll take over grouper any day. Genuine’s are my fave but since the idiotic Feds won’t let us keep them, they are hard to get. Word of advice on the triggers, they will bite. I had the end of my finger bitten off about 4yrs ago. Mostly grew back but still don’t have full feeling.
