runner passed the first baseman before he caught the chopper, or could he have tagged him out? Also, how was one of the 3 runs Andrews gave up unearned? The box score shows that he gave up 2 hits and a walk (hence no errors had been committed before the home run - unless they had a runner in a rundown or dropped the ball after tagging someone stealing out), so all 3 runs would have been earned.

one out and had to come home to prevent winning run because I think they had a chance with the pitcher covering first.I believe there was an error mixed in there by Krieger, but one of the runs was charged to the prior pitcher.

The ground ball was too far off of the line towards second for 1st baseman to make any play unassisted (I thought)---only play would have been throw to pitcher covering----Not a tough play if pitcher broke to 1st in time

video and it looks as if the pitcher had at least a step or two to beat the runner to first.

Play wasn't close to the line

IMO from this angle he wasn't going to get him at first either because his momentum was away from the bag and he likely wouldn't have got enough on the throw to make it in time. Considering that I can see why he felt his only play was at home despite it not being a force play. It was a bang/bang play there as it stood, so it's hard to fault his decision to take it there. The pitcher wasn't exactly Johnny-on-the-spot getting over to cover either.

That would have been a real close play at first but

look at the catcher after the play. He's staring down the 1b like "what were you thinking?"

Yeah, I saw that

but the only thing I can really fault the kid for is trying to make the play instead of letting the 2B have it to begin with. With a pitcher that is slow to the bag and having to make an off-balance throw to get him the ball I still think his only play was at home.

There was an error by SS before the HR with a runner on 1B that could have been a DP. Since you can't assume a DP, only one of the runs was unearned. But it should have been a solo HR...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, ss stop error should have been double play and thank

goodness for the Slayton's speed, they would not have gotten him a first base.
