UConn coach and Brownell had similar salary last year

2

Jun 22, 2023, 10:47 AM

Final performance was quite different.

Dan Hurley (2022): $2.90m
Brad Brownell (2022): $2.75m

Hurley just signed a big extension and raise.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well guess that rules out coach's pay as the problem...

Though we already knew that.

When Connecticut cost of living is factored in to the equation, Brownell made 27% more in real dollars than Hurley. This is offset by the primitive conditions Brownell is forced to work under at CU

These posts are beyond dumb. I shouldn't even respond. You could literally say that about many teams each and every year. It's similar to how every year, the detractors cherry pick the cinderella teams and say, "why can't that be us".

Did you know that Boeheim got paid a similar amount? Calapari got paid double and got bounced in the second round! Bob Huggins got paid over 4 mil and WVU didn't make the tourney. Buzz Williams got bounced in the first round of the NCAA despite getting paid way more than the uconn coach!

TCU Head Coach got paid nearly half of what dabo got paid last year. Final performance was quite a bit different. I know this statement will trigger 90% of tigernet to oblivion. It doesn't make it any less true. Does that mean TCU's coach is way better, or that Dabo squandered the talent on this team? No

Yes, but the difference is that every year the same argument has been about Brownell. If he is so great, why has he not been hired away or even been on a target list for teams??

Where do you think brownell should he ranked as far as pay in the ACC out of 15 teams?

If he was paid based on performance he would be near the bottom.

Well I think he should be rewarded for success. He should be about 6th. A little higher than some may like, but he has led the program without issues other than on court victories that matter.

If thats your opinion then he is underpaid.I cant find current numbers, but per 2020 numbers, he was the 9th highest paid coach In the ACC

Tricky because he has longevity which is part of why I rank him higher in salary. Also he has kept us spotless of scandal. Both of these are factors in my ranking, but the inexcusable losses hurts his value.

Where have you seen a post which says CBB is unfairly compensated? Many posts state the program requires additional investment the same way we have invested in other programs. This is particularly important given our history and obvious program challenges.

No. I'm saying that when FAU went on their run, many posters on here asked, "why can't our basketball program be more like FAU"?

The fact is that FAU has abysmal basketball history and they have had losing seasons in 7 of the last 10 years. We do not want our program to be like FAU despite them going on a run in the tourney.

Nobody has every said that we "Can't be better" because of our history. People have pointed out the fact that our history is a negative aspect of our program and certainly doesn't help in the recruiting process.

When recruiting, would you rather have the history of say, UNC or Clemson?

Interesting that the 4 BB coaches you mentioned all have significant more career success in winning than Brownell has ever had or come close to having. Kinda makes the point for the folks that want BB gone. He’s had similar bad results to the other 4 with none of the successes.

Nobody has every said that if we simply increase Brownell's salary and do nothing else w/ our program, that it would improve results.

The fact that the detractors have to continue to lie to try and make a point is very telling.

Hurley makes more money and coaches at a basketball school. Brownell coaches at a football school with a fan base that constantly rips the basketball program. Big difference.

Look here son, first of all you have never owned anyone. Talking over someone and ignoring other people’s povs doesn’t make you smarter, only makes you unable to discuss intelligently. Secondly, you never have answered the question, if Browneye is so great, why does nobody try to hire him away? Thirdly, if you are not judge then you were separated at birth.

Lets see if Hurley can this up and have as long term success as Coach Brownell has had. Let us not forget last year UConn had a 23-10 record about the same record as Clemson had this past season.
