The fire did not spread out of the kitchen stove area. The stove, cabinets, hood, and wall was destroyed, but it didn't spread to the upstairs. Thank goodness the police and fire department responded quickly. Turns out the homeowner left the stove on high.

glad to hear the damage wasn't too bad. I dont know what I would do if my house burned down. I still live and own my childhood home, so it would be devastating to me tbh.

My next door neighbors farm house caught on fire last July during the storms. Lightening struck a tree and ran into the house and burned half of it down. Luckly no one was at the home but the home that they had loved in for there entire married life burned down and insurance filed as complete loss. To make matters even worse her husband had died from Covid a year earlier and everything that she had of him was burned in the fire. She is doing fine now and is rebuilding the house but hate that all those things she had of her husband burned with the fire.

Tell them to check twice for smoke damage. Glade no one was hurt hope the insurance does not screw them like they love to do with people during there worst of times. Best of luck and keeping them in our prayers

And water damage from the fire department. You will never get that smoke smell out of the house (it’s also carcinogenic) if it traveled upstairs (which it likely did).

Had a neighbors’ house across the street get struck by lightning. Fire started at the panel in the basement and got into the ducting. The entire house basically had to be torn apart down to the studs and renovated. Took nearly a year until they could move back in. They had some insurance/contractor issues concurrently.

Always make sure you determine the path that a lightning strike follows to ground. All of the electrical wiring on a circuit where lightning travels should be replaced even if it tests okay. Lightning will jump out of the wiring insulation every time it crosses close to metal such as plumbing or nails.

In the middle of the night. Lost the house, a family pet, and a lot of sentimental memories. We barely made it out alive and it still affects me to this day and I am 50. I never leave the dryer on when leaving the house; check, double check, triple check the iron, stove, etc. Have even left work to go back home to check to see if I left stuff on. Hate it for your neighbors and glad that they are ok.

A suggestion that helps my wife with the same type of concerns. She takes a picture of the stove and the garage door when she leaves so that when she gets concerned whether she turned the stove off or closed the door she can look at the picture instead of having to go back or worry the rest of the day.
