What If? .....

What if we had not fumbled twice at the goal line and actually scored those TDs. What if we actually make that 23 yard FG? What if we don't turn the ball over on downs because our QB slides a yard early? We likely would have won that game. Would most of you still be complaining about the play calling at that point? Or talking about how bad our coaches are? Just wondering.

They are still so caught up in their emotions though.
The 15 - 20 era spoiled this fanbase and now after a rough patch, they really come off as entitled crybabies.

They were #40 in the preseason AP poll and #54 in the coaches' poll.

Do you think Duke will finish the season ranked in the top 25? I don't.

for a coach who is the second highest paid in college football, making $11.5 million a year, with arguably the nicest facilities in the country, and an extremely supportive administration and fan base, at a football school that has a history of winning.

we didn't blow Duke out more than Florida State blew out LSU. The Transitive math majors say we got absolutely no shot against FSU because of the massive point differential vs competition level.

Let me ask you this, if a tree falls to the ground deep in the forest and nobody is around, do it make any noise when it falls. If your answer is yes or no, prove it!!!

That's fair. My point was that the coaches did not make those 4 critical errors that most likely cost us the game. Now if it persists 3 or 4 games, then the coaching may be an issue. All the fire Dabo, and Fir Wes posters need to calm down. Why not fire Spiller? His backs cost us two touchdowns? People just need to calm down ad see what happens over the next 3 weeks.

Agree 100%.
Saw one post last night who was mad/upset because of perceived hype about the team.
My response was - yes you have coaches talking up the team - that is what hey HAVE to do! And players talking about the new system benefits….
But the only real hype I saw was from fans who need to be reminded to take a grade of slaw with the player and coach speak coming out of Jervey

Last year, Dabo told us that the QB room was the best he's had at Clemson.
This year, it's how great our wide receivers were doing.
Anyone who has listened to Dabo over the years should know that he's going to overexaggerate these things.

and 4 of our last 7 games.
We've underachieved each of the last two seasons.
How much more evidence do you need before considering that coaching might be an issue?

And the Duke fans know they would have lost if not for the 4 mistakes I pointed out.

If all those things had happened and Clemson scored 21 points in the third quarter and 7 in the 4th and won 35-13 I'd feel a whole lot better than I did after the game Monday night.
But, I'd still have concerns. 1. Why didn't the LBs pick up the back coming out of the backfield on a pass play? 2. Why were there so few attempts at passing the ball into the middle of the field? 3. Where was the TE in the passing game?
I wouldn't be as concerned about those questions as I am now, but I would still have them.

If you think winning the game would have changed that fact, then you're wrong.

What if

Dabo had decided to be an early adopter of the transfer portal, rather than defiantly refusing to use it?
What if Dabo had hired a proven, experienced defensive coordinator to replace Venables?
What if Dabo had hired a proven, experienced offensive coordinator to replace Elliott?
What if Dabo had hired more qualified position coaches, rather than mostly inexperienced ones?
I hope you've also pondered these what-ifs.

Yes I suspect if we had won 28-21, or whatever, the board would still be in meltdown mode.
