What is the probability this has happened?

Jul 26, 2021, 2:03 PM

Posting it here and on my FSU board. Curious to hear the responses.

What do you think the probability is that someone from FSU and someone from Clemson (fairly high up in the administrations and speaking for the universities) have talked and had this discussion: Should FSU and Clemson begin to explore the advantages of asking the SEC to accept both of us as a package deal?

I have no idea. But, my pure guess is that the conversation has happened, on a very low-key and informal basis. I'd put the probability at about 75% that it has happened.

It has happened...

Jul 26, 2021, 2:04 PM

at least twice in the past 10-12 years.

I believe it has happened.

That's what good leadership does. Both schools know the importance of being proactive and keeping all options on the table.

I don't think it's either school's desire to join the SEC, but it would obviously be preferable to remaining in a decimated ACC.

My bet is it’d be a package deal situation, to avoid GOR $$$ impacts. Would effectively have to nuke the conference.
SEC: Clem, VT, FSU
Big 10: GT, UVA, UNC

I'll posit the area between two standard deviations. Using Chebyshev's inequality table of course.

So your null hypothesis is: FSU and Clemson have had the conversation.

After collecting and analyzing the date you did not find enough information to reject the null hypothesis at the 95% confidence level.

Is that it?

Small sample size increases the std dev

So I'll go with 95% confidence on 66.6% probability, make it a firm 63.33%

Let's hope. But that would assume that CU and FSU knew what was going on with Texas/Oklahoma prior to last week's breaking news.

I'm talking about having the conversation after the news about TX/OU broke.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson, FSU, Miami, and VT

Jul 26, 2021, 2:18 PM

Definitely CU and FSU but Miami is starting to recruit well and turn things around under Diaz.

I wouldn't be surprised if UNC wants to be part of the SEC as well

Jul 26, 2021, 2:21 PM

SEC doesn't have a presence in North Carolina, and UNC brings a strong basketball program, a good and rapidly improving football program, and a huge fan following nationwide. UNC wouldn't want to be left out of a superconference, and they are more of a cultural fit with the SEC than the Big 10 for sure.

I don't think you'll see Tobacco Road breaking up any time soon.

I honestly don't think the SEC would be interested in UNC precisely because of basketball.

The SEC is great for Clemson and we should have joined years ago.

Perfect for football and recruiting.

Great for baseball, softball, and track.

Probably better for us in basketball.

The ACC is superior in golf and soccer. But they aren't bad in golf, but the one obvious loser would be soccer.

Based on the expertz, Clemson / FSU

Jul 26, 2021, 2:39 PM

Doesn’t bring any new TV markets to the SEC, so its ludicrous to even mention it.

I disagree. Clemson would bring the whole state of South Carolina to the TV market. Lord knows, the Lamecocks have no TV presence.
