What's everyone's gut feeling about the game this weekend?

Sep 25, 2016, 8:12 PM

I have a feeling we are about to introduce them to a level of defense they have never seen!

Just how good is their defense? Can't really tell from who they have played. Marshall put up 28 on them, Syracuse put up points as well...

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have a feeling that.......

Sep 25, 2016, 8:32 PM

we could have a notre dame type game. Think the D starts out great and the O moves the ball inconsistently but takes a lead. D starts to give up some chunk plays and lets them back in the game which could come down to who scores last. I hope not......but that's my gut. I would like to say total domination and the crowd contributes to the dismantling.

My gut is saying fast start and then hanging on for dear life. Gut still says CU win but not for the faint of heart.

Most likely you're right. I see a close one that goes possibly into OT. A shootout is coming

Remember: we went conservative vs. ND because of the very windy and wet conditions. Almost bit us but we held on. We will go for the throat Saturday.

It's time for some Football and with GameDay being here it just notches up the Hype that much more!!! We can't win it and after looking at the scale of things, I am not sure we can lose a National Playoff Chance either. Upon Further Review>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>-......................... it is TBD.

It's going to be hard fought. Tigers will take the W in the end.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I expect our offense to do just enough to win.

Sep 25, 2016, 8:38 PM

Our defense will be substituting liberally after Dabo sees that our offense is rocking. UL won't see much we haven't brought already unless they show ability to stop us. If we open the playbook to them you'll see a work of art on the field, Michelangelo ain't got nothing on Dabo.

Initial thoughts:

Clemson 38
UL 34

Close game, but Tiger defense and improved special teams are decisive along with a still improving offense, especially the OL.

Re: What's everyone's gut feeling about the game this weekend?

Sep 25, 2016, 8:50 PM

Gut says FSU 2013 repeat. Our O shows no signs of the 2015 team and our D can't contain Jackson forever.

MacLain was the leader of last years team. Without him the O is lacking an identity. No blocking, no lanes for Gallman, and no 2015esque DW4 elusive scrambles. Just going through the motions excepting to win.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll give you the tu for honesty. I've had flashbacks of that FSU game all week.

Sep 26, 2016, 2:52 AM

I believe in our team and coaches. However, based on what I've seen so far, Lville has a hungry look and killer instinct that I haven't seen from our O yet this year.

I think we've been hurt by dropped balls and at times DW not just taking what the D gives like he did last year.

Re: What's everyone's gut feeling about the game this weekend?

Sep 25, 2016, 9:11 PM

Our offense does enough to win the game . Our defense plays well , stops that running game .
That is the key in my mind , break their spirit up front with the DL and LBs , let the offense onto the field.

Believe we win a shootout , 38-34 .

1st QB to throw 2 INT's, loses....

Sep 25, 2016, 9:17 PM

boat race - tennis match - back-and-forth;

our defense and their offense are both pretenders - neither is as good as they have looked

against inferior competition (yes, FSU's D is currently "inferior");

Troy would be 3-1 against their schedule, and would have given FSU a fight;

they are faster than we are, across the board - not many teams could say that about us the last few years - maybe only FSU and LSU;

put the microphones away OL, and hit someone -

if our OL shows up playing like they have, Clelin Ferrell, Carlos Watkins, and Christian Wilkins should play both ways

until they can't - where's Phillip Price when you need him?;

basically, if everyone else plays decently, then it's on DW's shoulders -

don't see how we win if he doesn't outplay Jackson...

DW needs to get out of his own head.

And finally, after we win, the first arsehole who mentions "Heisman" should be shot...

cold steel, point blank, no questions asked....

BV will stop them our offense will go 3n out several times and then Louisville will break it open. We have the weapons but I have no trust in our offensive staff at this time. That's my thoughts on Sunday based on the 2nd half of the GT game and our other 2 games I refuse to count the SC State game. My feelings will change as we get closer to Saturday.

is really going to hurt. I hope not, though, because we all know barring a major injury, FSU will be our last significant challenge before the playoff. We just really need to get that running game clicking Saturday night. That would change everything. Jackson can't hurt us from the bench.

Re: What's everyone's gut feeling about the game this weekend?

Sep 25, 2016, 9:53 PM

I'm amazed at the number of folks that think we are going to lose.

Do you hear yourselves...???

This is OUR stadium. This is OUR Home.
We will do whatever it takes to win at home.

Our coaching staff will pull out the stops for an epic battle. The valley will be electric. Every orange clad fan screaming at the top of their lungs...

Several Clemson players will etch their names in the history book this weekend. I believe the guys have been holding back and I think we are in for a surprise. Clemson has always played up or down to the competition and it will be no different this coming Saturday.

The D Line will be living in their backfield all night and Jackson will have to scramble, the backers will take care of that with a Few early bouleware hits.

The secondary worries me a bit but I think our Offense will play their best so far this season and it will be more than enough.

I CANNOT STAND PETRINO and I hope he goes home on his motorcycle and cries.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Our D is more beastly

Sep 25, 2016, 10:21 PM

than most anyone realizes, except a lot of us Tigers who watch them. Maybe THE best D in college football, I'll go ahead and say it. No one and I mean no one makes Ga Tech look like a bunch of Midget leaguers like we did. Other than some silly goal line slants allowed back-to-back by the same player against Troy when we were up three TD's, we've been almost spotless.

On the flip side, there's too much pacifying that L'ville isn't so great. You dropped another one: Marshall "put up" 28 on L'ville. Yeah - b/c they were getting blown out. This team is probably the best team in the country right now, hands down, and yes, that includes Bama. They might even make Bama look silly.

For us to have a chance, it's already been stated. Our O must step up another notch, stay on the field more, convert third downs, and move the ball, and make some red zone scores. O line has and running game has to get out of funk. And of course, the D has to play like the number one D they are.

Re: What's everyone's gut feeling about the game this weekend?

Sep 25, 2016, 11:15 PM

I think we will control and manage the game...Luweevull will not put up 60 pts. on us in the Valley. Our defense will limit their opportunities to score and the offense will execute well enough to score points. Our guys will be ready and will rise to the occasion. Clemson wins by 10-14 pts.

Dabo is not after style points and we have played a ton of guys through 4 games (sans Auburn). We will win the game in Dabo fashion. The scores of our games have not been necessarily indicative of how well we have played although at times we did not execute appropriately. That is to be expected. Our coaches and players will be prepared.

We are as good or better than any team in the country. We have excellent coaches and players...all at the highest level in their craft. Most importantly, we have the right culture and a program with integrity. Our staff understands that this is a long season and our game plan is geared towards peaking at the right time. I am not worried about this game. The FSU game is another story for me.

There's never been a better time to be a Tiger. I am going to enjoy it. This year, I went to my first Clemson game (Troy) in 25 years (we live in Ohio) along with my 14 yo daughter and it could not had been any more perfect. She's always been a Clemson fan, but after seeing the campus, I think she is sold on going there. There's something in these Hills...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My gut feeling is that...

Sep 26, 2016, 2:14 AM

If the offense comes out and executes, gets the run game going, eliminates the dropped passes, & DW can start connecting on the long ball, we will come out on top. Might be closer than a few of us would like, but don't see how we lose @ home if we come out fired up & clicking on all cylinders in each facet of the game.

If we don't get going on offense, then it's gonna be shaky @ best b/c given what they are doing offensively , asking our defense to keep bailing us out might be too much to ask.

I got a feeling that if this game is gonna go in our favor, it will play out similarly to ND or FSU game last year - either smack them in the mouth early & hold on late, or hang tough early & chip away late. Make them pay for any mistakes they make, keep the home crowd rocking from opening whistle to the clock being all zeroes @ end of the game.

Re: What's everyone's gut feeling about the game this weekend?

Sep 26, 2016, 2:29 AM

I see a lower scoring game something like 24-14/24-17 Tigers.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but with DW4 not getting injured and have to leave the game, Clemson's only loss with DW4 playing as starter was to Alabama and Alabama got ahead on the onside kick.

As long as DW4 can stay healthy, I don't see Clemson losing specially with our Defense.

I think we win handily by at least 10. No nail biting for us fans.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know about gut. I guess it's more about what I want.

Sep 26, 2016, 4:34 AM

I mean want it to happen.

I still believe in the team, our coaches and the players. On offense, we return one of the best offenses in the nation last year. So, I want to think that we're gonna show up and show the nation that we deserve to go back to the title game. Offense will get through them and defense will be tough. We're not gonna come out flat like we did in 2013. We have had more experiences since then. And we'll beat them soundly.

That's what I'd like to think.

Realistically, will that happen? It's possible. It's not a lie that we return the best offense in the nation from last year. What concerns me is how Louisville defense was able to contain and pressure Francois. In comparison, even if they're able to do it again against our o-line, Watson is no Francois and our WRs are definitely better than those of Florida State.

On rushing game, they're able to hold Cook to just about 50 yards. That's quite impressive if you ask me. So far, our rushing game is not good either. So, that concerns me.

On defense, even though it looks like we have the best defense in the nation. I'm not concerned about our defensive front. It's the secondary that I'm worried about.

Even though we're among the best pass defense in the nation this year. One of the reason is because of our d-line. The pressure from our d-line makes it easier for our secondary to do their job. Looking at the teams we've played so far, none of them we can call a team that has a great passing offense. So, basically, our secondary hasn't really been tested yet and Mr. Jackson and company would be the best passing offense we'll play against.

In order to have a successful defense, I think Coach Venables will have to force Mr. Jackson to throw in the pocket and beat them with passing defense. If we allow him to go outside the box, he'll have more options to do either running or throwing. I think our d-line could very well do that, but I'm not 100% positive if our secondary is good enough.

Even with that thought, it's in Death Valley at night. I feel we have the advantage and so we'll come out with a close game win.

Is the latter part my gut feeling? Maybe so.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I don't know about gut. I guess it's more about what I want.

Sep 26, 2016, 8:17 AM

I say we get 3 INTs. These kids are overhyped and our secondary is good! Van Smith and Jadar Johnson will sit back and play center field while Lamar Jackson tries to throw up the deep ball.

game of the year to win. I think if we do that, then we have the deeper slightly more talented team. But it comes down to playing up to our potential.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: In all seriousness, we'll obviously have to play our best

Sep 26, 2016, 8:22 AM

Yes DW will have to be on point and we cannot have drops. We have to get yards on first and second and keep it 3rd and short. I believe we will need some big plays as well. Have to hit a few deep balls.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We win if we stop trying to run it over the guard repeatedly
