ABC sports and ESPN have the same upper management and they've choose to market the CFP on ESPN so they must feel ESPN will reach the largest viewership.

I guess but it should be on ABC, just my take.
Maybe NYE has something to do with it. I just hate having to switch on espn, cant stand those guys.

Because people who only have broadcast TV will not be able to see it if it is on ESPN.

I bet it is a very small percentage. And those people probably aren't nearly as likely to watch sports as they are New Year's Eve stuff.

I know a lot of older people that just have a basic package to get the local channels.
They do not have ESPN but still like to watch football.

No OTA option does sxck, but in this day and age, it's easy enough to watch whatever you want, no matter what channel it's on. It may not always be "legal", but it can definitely be done, and with very little effort.

I can't even imagine wanting to have the game on ABC myself - if I were making that decision. ESPN allows for the WatchESPN app to watch the game anywhere in addition to only allowing SUBSCRIBERS to watch the game, ergo - MORE $$$$$$$$$. This would have been a no-brainer for me. Just sayin'.
